4G and the Iphone.

Am I the only one that thinks that apple should not be allowed to call the 4th generation Iphone 4G? It's gonna steal thuunder from the evo AND now I'm gonna have to argue with all the unknowing masses that their Iphone is not infact the same (or better) as my EVO 4G...

i also think that it's not the best name for a phone considering there is a useable 4G network out there. im sure there will be bumper stickers to come "your iphone 4g doesnt run on a 4g network db" ;)

There is no hard evidence that Apple has any intention of calling the new iPhone "4G". The posts on the web about the names are just guesses. I have also heard it is going to be called iPhone HD.

The name of the new iPhone hasn't been confirmed. I doubt they will call it iPhone 4G because it would cause too much confusion.

Every person I've talked to about the next iPhone already thinks it's the "iPhone 4G" and that it will be able to use a 4g network at 4g speeds. Nothing official yet from Apple about a name, but calling it the iPhone 4G would be false advertisement. I hate trying to explain things to the gullible masses.

Exactly. I've already had to go through this with like 3 people and I haven't even gotten my evo yet!

They can name it whatever the hell they want. No need to get your undies in a wad.

It's not false advertising or anything. It's their 4th generation phone, hence the name. And in fact, it's brilliant advertising and marketing for them to call it that precisely because the unwashed masses will assume it means 4G and no think twice about it. Additionally, it causes people who take phones way too seriously to get outraged about it.

However, it could backfire in a small sense when people realize the speeds are the same as 3G.

That's exactly why I'm going to try to get a new android some guy just opening on the right foot... maybe. We'll see how they do with my attitude/sarcasm lol.

To be fair, there are giant areas in the country where calling the EVO a 4G phone wouldn't be exactly true. Fact of the matter is that the EVO is not a better phone than the iPhone because of 4G. It's a better phone because it's a better phone.

no the phone is still a 4g phone... they didnt remove the antenna or something.
thats like calling the iphone 3g just a regular iphone across most of the us

Uh, yea it is a better phone in part because of 4G. Plus, you can't claim that the EVO is better when you don't even know the final specs of the iPhone 4G. You very well might prefer Android OS to iPhone OS...but you can't claim that a released phone is better than an unreleased phone. If you're going to do that, then I am going to claim that the iPhone 5G is better than the EVO.

FYI, its specs are done and there are dozens - perhaps hundreds - out on the streets. If you really want to debate semantics for two more weeks, then be my guest. The phone is released.

Aside from the prototypes that are out there. A video stated that there were close to 5000 attendees at Google IO. most (if not all) of wich got one.
