Can't turn off flashlight notification

Hi, just hoping someone else has had and solved this problem with an S8. My partners phone updated fairly recently and ever since she's had the flashlight go off every time she gets a message on facebook messenger or sms, or an email or phone call. We've tried accessability --> hearing --> flashlight notification but that's all turned off.

She did have Go Launcher installed and a theme from that which she got around the same time as the update - I've uninstalled Go Launcher and returned it to factory settings but it's still doing it.

Any ideas?

Just to clarify, the phone has been factory reset and it's still doing it or just Go Launcher has been returned to its factory state (I'm going to presume the former).

Have you tried booting in safe mode to see if the it happens then? Hold the power button, then when the power off menu icon appears on screen, hold that and it will give you an option to reboot in safe mode. Test the notification with an SMS and if it doesn't appear, it's most likely a 3rd party app causing the problem, you'll just need to work out which.

That should check the permissions of installed apps on your device to see which have torch/camera permissions.

As an aside, pretty much everything by Go is spyware so I wouldn't recommend using their launcher, or any of the other apps they offer.

Sorry, no it's been reset to factory settings (not a full factory reset as we don't want to wipe the data off the phone)
Go Launcher has been removed

Try safe mode then, that will rule out any 3rd Party apps.

What data don't you want to lose? A lot of info is backed up to your Google and Samsung accounts so you should be covered.

I understand your reluctance though, it should always be a last resort.

My sympathies about the idea of a full Factory Reset. Sure the data is backed up. But the specific screen layout, widget preferences, and other such details are not.

So when I do a factory reset, I have to be prepared for 4-6 hours of stupid work getting my screens, widgets settings, widget and icon locations, and app preferences they way I had them. Yep; the better part of a full day. Even if I do screen shots ahead of time, some crucial widgets don't easily allow me to restore their settings.

This is a needless exercise that Google could quickly eliminate by allowing all of those settings to be saved. But they don't. So we avoid Factory Reset until we have no other option.

The safe mode check was the PERFECT solution for me! The blinking light didn't happen with a call in safe mode. So I started checking permissions with the camera..it was an app that I just removed permission to the camera! Yay!

As a side note, on the Galaxy s7, I went into settings, apps, then the 3-dot menu under App permissions, and found "camera". There I deselected the apps that didn't need that camera and found the culprit.

That didn’t fix mine, but it got me going in the right direction! So thank you!

I know this is an old thread, but I restored to my new replacement s10 plus, and same thing started happening with incoming calls. I disabled everything that had “permission” for camera use (including factory apps), and still didn’t fix my issue.

The solution for me was to go into settings/apps, and click more options (3 dot menu) and clicked “reset app preferences”. So far, it’s all good.
