Create website to showcase app?

I’m getting close to releasing my first app. I’m wondering if it would be beneficial to create a simple wordpress website that I can use to showcase the app (or multiple apps in future) and link to the app in the play store. The idea being to obviously drive more traffic to my app.

Now I’m not expecting my app to be particularly popular or make a great deal of money. I’ve done it more as a learning activity. Similarly, creating the website will also be a learning activity, but crucially this one will cost money as I’d need to pay for a domain and hosting etc, so I’d only be willing to go down this route if it’s likely to provide a decent amount of traffic to my app.

Do any developers here have a similar site to showcase their apps? Does it provide much traffic to your app, and do you consider it a worthwhile expense?

Even if you create a simple web site, how is the public going to find it?

The name of the app describes what it is, so it’s the sort of term someone would google for, (for example: currency converter) and hopefully if there was enough keywords on the website it would be somewhere on the first few pages of google results.

I believe it's called SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Good luck

Can you share with us the app idea, name, link in the Google Play Store? One way to get promotion is to share it proudly in places that you already frequent (including AndroidForums.com): Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, etc... tell people it's a project you've built that you're proud of and - if you're still a beginner - tell people and ask them to be gentle. People tend to be supportive and nice when you're honest and open.

If you plan to be doing this for the long-term than I'd say go ahead and buy a domain and shared hosting but not until you have a PLAN for your website. How many pages will it have? What will those pages say? How will you concisely explain your app and get people excited enough to download? Those are things you should answer before shelling out the money.

To be completely honest, I think the best thing you can do is start your website and have a blog that follows your experience as an Android developer. Share the things you learn, news that's exciting, pontificate on things you're debating on, etc... you can write these articles for yourself as a journal of sorts but in the long run it may help attract an audience especially if the topics are directly related to the app.

Following up on that last idea you could also build a resource on your website that works in parallel with your app. So for example if your app is a calorie counter you could have articles about healthy eating, healthy recipes, how to count calories, how many calories typical foods have, etc...

Hope this helps- let us know how it goes!
