well what happened to make the error show up? and what did you do to troubleshoot?
did you install an app or remove an app?
did you update firmware?
did you attempt root? is KNOX still functioning?
what carrier are you on?
have you tried in different environments and light intensities? did you alter your face or eyes? do you wear glasses? did you wear glasses or have different hair when you first setup the recognition?
did you remove the facial recognition and re-setup with new facial recognition?
I ask all questions--even dumb ones--because you never know.
did you just buy the phone yesterday? is it brand new to you? did you buy it used?
delete the facial/biometric data and set it up again. make sure you stay away from strong /harsh light and that you are not backlit.
if the phone is brand new in the box and this is the behaviour out of the box, there may be an issue with the hardware. the next thing you should do is factory reset BUT NOT installing any backups. re-test the biometrics. if after all that you still have issues, its faulty.

I did read that wearing masks, because of coronavirus, degrades facial recognition as well.
Not funny, dude.![]()
Yeh, it wasn't intended to be funny.
I usually spend a lot of time in China, and the now that everyone there is legally required to wear masks covering mouth and nose, the facial recognition technology, used by phones for unlocking, and by police/public security for law enforcement etc, is having problems with it.
As for the problem with your Samsung S9, have you tried rebooting or resetting it?
