Airports.

One of my pals is in the same boat as you, The_Chief, known him since it was around 80's back then, we all got together for their house, my mom's very first Mary Kay customer that stayed through thick and thin, he teach classes in the small airport we have down here, and does a little bit of taking care of his grandkids :) Knew his family forever too.

My buddy texted me Saturday (March 28th)
"Work update: worked last night. Most flights that actually were operating had 20 people max on them. I work late today, tomorrow, middle on Tuesday, early Wednesday and possibly Thursday as well. Off Friday/Sat, though everything subject to change daily"

Yesterday (Monday the 30th), he sent:
"Including managers, as of right now we have 42 employees out of our peak of 135"
and
"Still no sign from airlines of coming to a stop for any period of time. I will be here after 11pm tonight due to one flight that I bet won't have 10 people on it-including crew"

He's a manager of the airport's concession shops, and they are contractually obligated to have so many stores open as long as any flights are running in or out of the airport.

I was born and raised around the Atlanta airport, and watched it grow from the original terminal to the busiest airport in the world with underground trains, moving sidewalks and five runways. I never thought I'd live to see an article like this...

My bud sent me a video of the Southwest Florida air terminal yesterday afternoon. It was a ghost town - not another human being in sight. His company is contractually obligated to stay open until the last plane offloads and is done. I would think the airlines would coordinate days to fly in & out, so the airport could just shut down 3 or 4 days a week to not hemorrhage money so much...

Don't expect high-def video here... aggressive file compression over messaging butchered it!

Wow I still remember that place :) My grandmother was down there in Florida for ages, just before she just passed on ages ago, but I still remember that place.

Well speaking from the city that always sleeps I just have to say.
"This is fine."

My bud in SoFla reported last night:

"The painful part of my night: this last hour of the day, I'm the only employee of ours left, gotta keep this last store open another hour for maybe $20 in sales. Last night of this, though, as Southwest Airlines is adjusting their operating hours tomorrow"

Good! Airlines are generally in competition - right now, though, they need to coordinate flights to save themselves and each other
