VZWsupport Twitter now says leakers WILL receive OTA..

to give ZC the benefit of the doubt, he was probably thinking "leakers" was the same as "root"... I kinda feel bad for him/her today, acting like a dog with its tail between its legs

It's hard to feel bad for somebody who posts that leakers should try installing a ROM designed for the G1 onto the Eris and then, only when questioned about it, says that Verizon will not support you if you follow that advice and brick your phone, because you invalidated your warranty by installing unsupported firmware.

I'd say that yesterday's tweets by ZC were an example of bad customer support.

I honest put 0 faith in what that idiot at vzwcluelessupport has to say.
Someone explain to me how you isolate just the leakers to update them seperately. The HBOOT version is different yes, but can you check that info with the OTA scripts?

Doubtful... yesterday they were saying this and that... different things left and right... today the answers seem pretty consistent.. we WILL get the update.. whether it is OTA or manual I do not know... but I believe we will get it.. and hell it may not even be today but I am sure it is coming

you're right... but imagine being that guy and sounding like such a ****? He/she was completely wrong to do it... and should never have had the ability to even post that crap... but still

I am a skeptic. I will believe it when I see it.

So being that zc was giving links to try and brick phones for us Eris users, do you think that verizon is just now getting off their asses to bring leakers the ota to keep from having a major pr problem?

Exactly, basically what he said was your warranty was voided so try any of these updates and you may get lucky. If not I'm not responsible. I'm gonna help you to ruin your phones and when it does I had nothing to do with it. Customer support at its finest. If our warranties were voided his best option would have been to leave it at that. Kinda like going tp the dealership to get an oil change to find that their too busy and a mechanic says just put in some sugar water it should work, but if it doesnt then its your fault.

If he was going to advise installing 1.5 (which he was suggesting in order for leakers to get the OTA, by the way), he should have pointed out first the whole "you've already voided your warranty, we take no responsibility for this, I did not test this myself" stuff - not after he was asked and, because they were @ replies, not visible to people who were not watching the VZWSupport feed directly.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt on being well-meaning, but not on the professionalism of technical support.

Twitter is a marketing gimmick for big companies like this. It's so they can say "Follow us on Twitter". Just like Facebook .... "become a fan on Facebook". :(

Just "tweeted" *shiver* the support, asked if we would get the same OTA as the others or if it will be one with an updated HBOOT, because im interested in this root business. We'll see if he knows what im talking about(I don't have high hopes after yesterday's shenanigans)

This may be true in some cases, but I'm here to tell you that I had some issues with my cable company last fall, I tweeted about it (not a directed tweet - they were obviously searching for their name), and I had easily the best customer service from them - perhaps from any company - ever.

And, honestly, I'd rather that Verizon Wireless actually try to provide support on twitter rather than ignore any customers who need help and tweet aboyt problems. It just makes sense to listen.

Meh at this point I think there are just messing with people. With as many times as they change their minds, pretty much on a daily bases. Just wait a few hours and it'll probably change again.
Either that or they have a magic 8 ball that they defer to every time a person asks about the leak.
I'm going with this answer...

New tweet from @VZWSupport:

Sorry about the confusion Sunday. We only guarantee OTA to users with prior approved software.

Yeah leakers are not getting 2.1 OTA....wonder if we can call and complain saying they said we are getting it, then not getting it, then getting it, then not getting it?

awesome, just brilliant on their part, screw over your customers even after they help, even if by accident, you test the rom. I understand it is an unofficial release, but how did they expect people not to go for the shiny new toy once it was leaked? guess im waiting till they can root the leaks...

Unless the VZW twitter people can explain "How" the leakers are going to get the update, then I would NOT believe a word of it.

Most software updates check version numbers. The leaked v3 and OTA release software versions are identical. Are they really going to write a customer script that looks for some unique identifier for the very small number of users who installed any of the leaks? And to differentiate between leaks 1 thru 3 for that matter is going to be interesting.

Also, the OTA script CLEARLY identifies a version check for 1.5. See above remarks.

The ONLY way leakers are getting OTA is by a standalone installer. So......unless the twitter support care to explain how the OTA is going to be delivered, then I would not believe a word they say.

I have said all this before in numerous posts and yet people still want to torture themselves and provide misinformation to everyone else. There are a few major hurdles to get over before an OTA for leakers is going to happen. Please STOP asking care and other sources this same question. I have told you the facts. Not sure why people ignore it.

I do not tweet or use twitter at all. I get my information from 30 years as a tech geek (and no I am not 30 years old) and by the fact I work for the phone company

Sigh OTD,.........major SIGH
