Unwished for light appeared

On my slightly ancient but otherwise nicely functioning Lava Iris 88 a light has appeared at the top of the screen next to the loudspeaker / front camera. It won't go away even when I turn the phone off and it seems to be using a little battery life.
Any solutions as to how to turn it off please?

That's the front flashlight or torch. Pull down on your shade, find the flashlight icon, and touch it, so it is off.
Or it could be tied to the camera app

It's very surprising if restarting the phone doesn't stop it though. Weird design decision.

Thanks, I hardly ever use the camera. It is indeed a camera function, playing with the buttons I managed to get an illuminated selfie taken. However I still can't turn it off.

If it will not shut off, try a factory reset. Save your important stuff before hand.
