Hook, Line and Sinker: the book

I'm looking for one which I'm pretty sure has that as part of its title. It's about the invention of credit cards and how they were supposed to help people but just made things worse. I've done a fair amount of Internet searching for it, with no luck.

Are you quite sure it wasn't a movie? Because here's the first thing I found, Hook, Line and Sinker, a 1969 movie starring Jerry Lewis, Peter Lawford and Anne Francis--and its plot revolves around careless use of credit cards.

I'm sure it's a book. I"ve seen it before, but not lately. All I'm getting is other stuff, such as romance.

Did you look at the movie link I posted? Does it sound like what you're thinking? I checked to see if it was based on anything, whether a book or short story or magazine article, but didn't see any such credits.

If you're sure it's a book, there are still other places to check. Do you have any sense of time-frame? Like when it would've been published, or what the cover looked like, or info about the author (typically on the back cover). Anything?

I suppose that could be it, though I think the cover showed a fishing line and a hook with a credit card as bait. Unfortunately, the listing doesn't show much beyond the cover. I tried looking it up more generally, with the author's name and the title, but got nowhere.

Well, if that isn't it, I think you're out of luck. I mean, I talked to a librarian at the Library of Congress to find it--and it was hard for them! :o

The ones on Amazon are only $4. Maybe buy one, see if it's the right book, and return it if it isn't. BTW, I tried to read the back cover but I couldn't make anything out. Too bad there isn't a better image available.
 
I agree. There should be some kind of Library of Congress for images. Maybe some day there will be. It shouldn't be this hard to find a book. Maybe I'll get lucky at some garage sale.

Considering how obscure it is, if I were you I'd just spend four bucks and buy one on Amazon. I think your odds of stumbling upon it at a garage sale are about as remote as walking on the face of the sun. :o
