Froyo 2.2 could be coming to a Hero near you!

there's features on froyo that won't be able to be used on a Hero device....like i said..go ahead..flash it....it will run......but you won't get the same exact juice out of it....

Nobody is saying that it will. However, it'll still give the Hero better performance. Not Evo performance, or Nexus one, but better performance none the less. I'd like to see 2.2 on my Moment though...:D

I could see Froyo being ported unofficially, but by HTC and/or Sprint, I don't see them updating the Hero to 2.2. Not with the Legend coming to Sprint.

getting sense fully integrated with 2.2 and packaging it to fit and run on older devices will be quite an undertaking.

It would be cool if we could get processors for our phones and upgrade them ourselves...just like our PC's ..........you know how fast I'd jump on that and keep my phone by just doing upgrades over and over..

not possible. phones are built like laptops, like a puzzle. ever hear of someone upgrading to an after-market graphics card on a laptop? not likely. they are built to be as compact as possible and every piece fits perfectly together. sure you can change the board and cpu and graphics card on a desk top but that is because you have the large tower to do so. if all of our phones were 6"x6"x3" bricks then maybe it would be feesable to have phones with upgradeable hardware but that is simply not the case...

Yes. MXM PCIE slots. You can change the cpu as well, and put more memory in and a bigger hard drive. Sure it's a hell of a lot more difficult and expensive, but you can do it.

HTC said that Froyo will be coming to its 2010 devices. I highly doubt that includes the Hero. Thankfully, the EVO is expected to get it in July. :D

A Guy ......the word is "SPECS" ......HTC Hero doesn't have them........trust me...I love my Hero ...but Froyo it's not for our device...

I agree... everyone just needs to accept the fact this is a huge business... HTC and Sprint etc want us all to buy new phones... i.e EVO etc. The software for these devices will evolve to support the upgraded hardware... the realization is phone handsets will have a life expectancy (based on software support / features etc) of about 6 months in production. I just wish the carriers would embrace this and allow us to buy new phones when they're available regardless of your contract situation at a reasonable price.

well, considering that engadget shows the Droid Eris running 2.2, and this video shows the Hero running 2.2, it is entirely possible that in a few months we may see a Sense powered Android 2.2 rom for the Hero coming out of xda. It's cool, but I have to admit that I'm happy with my Hero on the official 2.1. Needless to say, by the time 2.2 drops officially, I'll be on the Evo, and waiting for HTC to release 2.2 for that. Nevertheless, after switching to the EVO, I will be putting 2.2 on my Hero if the chance arises.

im curious how good the EVO phone is/ been reading alot of member posts that want this phone? i really love my hero but u know us guys- always like new gadgets.

can someone give me the scoop?

Well, I will just leave you with this bit of info:

The Hero's hardware is almost 2 years old. The EVO is the top-of-the-line smartphone on the market now that makes everything look like a joke. Ever notice just how slow your Hero is? The EVO is lightning fast.

This.

I got my hero a month and a half ago... just in time to see all the positive reviews about the Evo and outside the window for a full refund.

Oh well, Hero with Android is still better than an iPhone IMO.

you can run it....but you won't get the same exact results and what froyo it's really supposed to do..

Froyo will be meant for a more snappier processor with power such as the Snapdragon processor...

the ones for our HTC Hero's wont do shit with it....and yes I already seen the XDA thread about it...just remember..IT WILL NOT HAVE THE SAME FEELING...
Of course not. It stands to reason that you won't get as good performance from Hero as from handsets with better hardware. You can stop being a dick about it, nobody is impressed.

All we Hero users need is for Froyo to be faster than Android 1.5, or 2.1.

Yep Froyo will be fast....but it's an OS not meant for the HTC Hero...

like I said..you can flash a Froyo ported ROM for the hero..but the real features that will make Froyo on devices that can take it..you won't see it for the Hero......

and how dare you call me a dick about that...It's just reality ...

Fair enough, but I expect the developers to step in. What I was responding is to a certain person's insistence that we could not see 2.2 because of the Hero's hardware limitations. From everything I have read about 2.2, it works across a broad range of hardware and is specifically designed to be able to work with cheaper hardware too. And of course, the EVO will run it "better".

But there should be nothing stopping the Developer community porting it for us, and I imagine it will make the Hero run WAY better than 2.1

sagedil....Froyo 2.2 will have full flash....have you tried using the full flash on the hero?

hero's wont be able to handle the v8 javascript engine either...

but yeah...you get my point...

Flash - alright.

V8 - I have a feeling the Hero will run this quite nicely.

You have to remember that with the possible exception of Flash, everything in FroYo seems designed to get better performance out of the same hardware. On the Nexus One, there's quite a dramatic difference. On the Hero, not so much, but it will still be better than what we have now.

I dont see why everyone is arguing "well it will be nothing like the evo." Duh guys, cmon. Can't anybody be excited that this is a new mention and our heros are already running it in some fashion? JIT, tethering, apps2sd, mass app updating, auto-updating apps, and a fully customizied build optimized completely to decrease lag all around. NONE of this appeals to you downers? I am stoked about the port [for those who don't know] so let us have our fun :D Even if we don't see an official drop for the hero, which we won't, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind we will see some steady ports. How do you guys think rooted heros saw 2.1 so fast? Hmm..
