LauncherPro Beta

Ive also noticed my battery rain atleast 1/4 faster than it usually does when Im running Sense. Not sure why, maybe theres a bug somewhere in the app? Obviously it isnt happening to everyone, so theres probably something specific happening to cause it. Trouble Shoot, only way for us to find out until that new Send Error Report on Froyo is out. xD

By far the best home replacement! I have tried them all and I liked Helix the best, but this one performs a lot better on my phone. It's way smooth and responsive and I like the dedicated buttons at the bottom. Like others, I wish we could change these around, but I like the default ones for now. LauncherPro has helped me simmer down a little bit because I have leak 2.1v3 and can't root. This launcher performs so well that I feel like I have a faster phone!

..and it's a beta. I hope they don't mess its final up. ;)

I have been using Launcher PRo for a few days now, and I really like it. Its waaaay snappier and quicker than the stock home. One major problem I had today was...I installed weatherbug last night (3am after a gig I had) and went to bed without really messing with it. When I woke up today, I tried to make a call... for 45 min i couldnt make a call at all....it wouldnt even go to the "call in progress" page... Ugh :-( . So after almost deleting Launcher Pro, I uninstalled weatherbug, re-started my phone, and woola...its works fine again. Anyone else have any problems like this?? Other than that, a few force closes here and there on other apps... I love it... The dev is going to update it this week so we can change the icons on the bottum of the pages.. RAWK

One more thing... how do I change back to Sense to make sure my widgtes are all off???

Can someone tell me what is better about LauncherPro?

I'm not sure if I'd characterize Launcher Pro Beta as "better" than Sense.

It seems to suit me "better," though. ;)

- Landscape mode on the home screens, which lends a natural transition when bringing up the browser or messaging, etc

- Choice of how many screens, 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 or 7, are offered (none blank, for example, if you decide you need less than the 7 maximum; they're just not there after your setup menu choice)

- Dedicated icons at the bottom of the screen, unlabeled: phone - people - messaging - browser and of course the app launcher list icon

- seems quicker, a bit more responsive than Sense

I just watched a couple videos about LauncherPro and Helix. It seems to me that those UI were developed to imitate, in alot of ways, the sense UI. So, I guess in my mind, it would make the most sense to stick with the UI that it seems everyone is imitating. I like the sense UI and it seems to work very smooth on my phone. I'm one of those people that lives by the theory "if it isn't broken, don't fix it". I got my phone two weeks ago, did the OTA update, and everything is smooth. Battery life is slightly above avg (from what im reading on the forum), and nothing seems to be misplaced (knocks on wood).

Maybe its just cause I'm not so worried about the speed difference, but I don't see the reason behind messing with your phone to pretty much get the same thing as you already have. People want to get rid of the sense UI to get LP or Helix, and then they download beautiful widgets or some other app to replace the standard HTC app. Why go through all that trouble? You already have the apps, and a UI that looks like helix and LP, so why not just keep it? JMO .... Plus, is the speed really that noticeable/important?? (legit question, not trying to sound like a SA)

I have 60 apps on my leak 1 Eris and have no problems with Sense. Can someone tell me what is better about LauncherPro?

1. It' slick as hell, nice smooth transitions from screen to screen, and opening up app launcher, smoothest I've ever used.

2. Dedicated buttons at the bottom.

3. Can change amount of screens.

4. Did I mention its fast as hell?

I never thought I would leave Sense but Launcher Pro may have me hooked. I only used 3 sense screens. Like Frisco Launcher Pro seems to fit what I want a little better.

I have been using this for about 3 days and I like it myself. Sense was really good for a bit and I have no real complaints about it, but this is quicker on the screens. I have just now dropped down to 5 screens instead of 7 and already like that a lot more than i thought I would.

I just wish they would launch all phones with Vanilla and have all the Sense widgets available in the marketplace. You would be able to pick and choose what aspects of Sense you wanted on your phone.

Wish we could remove sense without root or at least disable it.

It cannot be removed without root.

The path to disable Sense is Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > (wait for the "computing" note to turn into application sizes) > Menu > Sort by Sizes > HTC Sense > Clear Data > (I also "force stop," some don't).

Then power down and back up, select "Home" from popup menu at boot up.

Incidentally, and off-topic, that is the method I used to make the "silent bug" and other strange behaviors on a co-worker's Eris go away. It's been 5 days now with no returning bugs.. we'll see.

I am starting to sense that sense was the cause of most of my issues (no pun intended). I still have crappy quality calls but the rest of my phone now operates smooth as silk. I found free alternative apps for what I needed, mainly a sense style clock. I found a free one that does weather as well as ties into the regular system clock so I can access my alarms and im a good to go. Adding the ability to edit the dock would be cool but not essential. I would like to be able to chage the color scheme of the dock but I can live with white.

I have the sneaking suspicion that Sense is dragging what quality control generated issues in hardware might be present in some devices, down to Bug Land.

I have no data, proof or good betting money on that.. just a sneaking suspicion. ;)

if your sound quality is what's "crappy" on your calls, try this if you haven't already.......

##778 and press call, select edit mode (code is 000000) then select CDMA settings. Scroll to the bottom and select home page and change to EVRC-B (repeat this for Home Orig, and Roam Orig). When you're done press menu and press commit changes. Should improve call quality

But is it worth the battery life? If I'm not going to root my phone (not comfortable with it, and my phone is working now, so I don't wanna break it), and I want to run LP or Helix, and I disable Sense, wouldn't it drain my battery even faster? If not, then it could be something to look into. If it does, than that little bit of speed and snappieness (not a word but will do) just doesn't seem like it would be worth the battery drain.

I run LP and let sense do its thing in the background. My battery life is no different (maybe better) with LP. Might have something to do with not having all the widgets running in the background.
