UPDATE Your G1 manually

and the fun with the G1 begins.

I hope just as many people start to play with this phone as do with the Kaiser....

all we need now is a G1 Tweaks and a true file manager program

So sum it up again for us...the instructions.

Just to reduce any possible confusion from the previous posts.

as simple as it can get...

-download the file https://android.clients.google.com/updates/signed-kila-ota-115247-prereq.TC4-RC19+RC28.zip
-put it on your sd card
-rename is to "update"
-turn your phone off
-hold the "home" button and while still holding it press teh power button to turn the phone on
-when the phone start you should see this screen
attachment.php

-open the keyboard
-press Alt+L
-pless Alt+S
-When it says "Installation Complete" you can press "Home" + "Back" to reboot.
-Wait for your phone to completely reboot and allow it to finish writing your radio rom during reboot, it may reboot multiple times.
-Enjoy

just finish mine and its perfect~~and i have to say: "its a small step for updating rom, but its a big step for rom cooking!"
I did this while at work. I didn't want to post if cause i sorta wanted to be the guinea pig first. But it seems to work just fine. Thanks!

Nice, worked perfectly for mine.

One thing I noticed about the new update is that it beeps and shows a notification when I put in a USB cord. Didn't do that before. ^_^

forgive me for my ignorance in advance. I am wondering since the first link isn't working for me, if I do this rapid share thing do I need to download all those links? and how safe is this to do? I am still not updated and i'd like to be and for the first time I am not able to get through to t-mobile, I always thought their customer service was 24 hours but um ok. I am happy to see it worked for some of you guys and i'd like to take a chance and do a manual update as well i'm just a lil chicken to click the link and start the download.

I noticed that this info didn't seem to be widely known here so I thought I'd register and share the wealth.

I've just done this and it works perfectly, takes about 10 minutes to do.

Overall it seems like the phone is more stable and smoother in operation, we'll see how it does over time.

If it works for you, post back here to let people know it works!

the google.client one will work. just click it a few times.

I just did 5 times and the 5th time it worked. there are just so many people downloading it.

good luck

geez, that was a breeze. i hesitated about renaming the file at first...unsure if android would recognize a .zip file, but wow. This phone continues to amaze me.

Thanks.

This has been posted here but these instructions make more sense to me. Now gotta find a computer here that has a microcard slot.

Just one I believe. Those are just multiple links to the same thing if I'm not mistaken.

I keep getting an error message screen is as follows:

installing from sdcard...
finding update package...
E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or subdirectory)
E: can't mound SDCARD:update.zip
installation aborted

i have tried renaming it: update, UPDATE, update.zip, Update.zip and none of them have worked. Could anyone help me?
