Battery Goes From 90% to 0% in One Hour Android 16

On a Google Pixel 6, since upgrading to Android 16 every few days late in the day the phone goes from over 90% battery to 0% battery in just one hour. It looks like some system software is stuck in a loop. I reviewed the battery usage of applications, and nothing there explains the battery use. Has anyone seen this behavior in Android 16, and is there a workaround?

I haven't a clue. Every few days doesn't sound like an OS problem but here is what AI provided:
AI Overview

If your Pixel 6 is experiencing power problems after an Android 16 update, first perform basic software troubleshooting by checking for and installing all pending updates, then try resetting the Device Health Services and system radios. If the issue persists, disable adaptive features like Adaptive Battery, look for apps with high battery usage, or try a hard reboot. A full factory reset may be necessary as a last resort.

next time it happens, try to catch it before it dies, and then open developer options and select running services

this can identify the problem app(s)

at that point, you can try a few different things depending upon how deep you want to go

if its a new phone or you want a year or more with it it can be worth it, if you are thinking about a new device, then that is the easiest way out

i stay away from system updates altogether, myself

How do I enable developer mode? One online resource said to click the "Build number" item seven times, but this does not activate anything.

Did you head to system, it should be underneath there with { } on your device.
You have to "enable" developer mode before that option shows up on System. I finally got developer mode enabled.

I find a "System Tracing" and under that "Record CPU profile"

I will wait for the problem, hope the phone does not die before I catch it, and then do a trace. Then I guess I have to send that trace file to some tool online that will decode it.

Little steps I am glad.

i have 0 internet where i am unless i am at a public wifi area, so sorry for the late response

personally, i turn off any tracing and the like to conserve power and space

although my newer device has decent room, my older ones did not, and old habits die hard

how much memory were the tracing apps using?
they may be the culprit(s) by themselves

No, I only turned on developer mode AFTER the battery problems started. The tracing itself goes for two minutes

yes, but i dont need 2 minutes of wasted battery.

also, developer options should use little if any excess battery

but i would still check running services to see what is running

it may be sometging that can be turned off

I don't find any service that clearly dominates in the trace. The trace tool is also hard to use, so I might not be reading it correctly.

At this point, I think the battery is just dying, and a quick discharge might just be how a dying battery expresses impending failure?

yes, you are correct in my opinion.

but we all hope for the best in these scenarios, and hope that it is just some rogue app or a bunk update.
something that is fixable ourselves

if it is the battery, what are your plans?
batteries are replaceable, but they are getting more and more difficult to do so

if the device is working fine while it is charging, then now might be the time to start migrating data you want to keep onto an SD card or similar for transfer to a new device

dont forget that our outdated androids are great for music and other such things, even if its not your go to device anymore

I will upgrade the device to something newer and unfortunately T-mobile requires a trade-in for me to get the upgrade for nearly "free"

i too utilize t-mobile, but i 'bring my own device'

i have good luck at wal-mart by getting manufacturer unlocked devices that are a couple model years old at a good discount

i havent paid more than $120 and can live with what is available

a good time to ask if they have 'last years model' is when new crap comes out, they usually have leftovers that are then sold (but not advertised) at a discount

so far that is how i got my last 2 devices
