Orientation / Accelerometer Problems

Hi all, just got the droid today and for some reason the accelerometer no longer changes the screen when I turn it from horizontal to vertical. Now, if I have the keyboard open, it stays on horizontal mode, but once I close the keyboard it goes to the longer vertical mode. No matter how much I turn the phone around, as long as the keyboard is closed the screen stays vertical.

I have confirmed that the Orientation setting is correct in my settings, and have even turned it on and off just to test.

Is anyone else having this experience or have any solutions? Thanks!

For some reason, they decided that landscape for the home screen is not necessary without the keyboard open, and thus it doesn't matter.

Are you having problems with the accelerometer in other screens? Games, Messaging, Gmail, etc...

I could have sworn it was working in landscape without the keyboard open earlier today when I got the phone. Found this forum searching specifically for this issue since it's going to portrait when I close the keyboard. It really doesn't do landscape without the keyboard out?

I dont know about 2.0, but its been that way with other versions of Android. I have to assume it the same.

I love that it doesn't rotate the home screen. That drove me nuts on the Storm that everytime I brought it out of the holster it rotated and switched screens.

home rotates if the slider is out. otherwise it doesn't. make a video and prove me wrong please because i'd really like to see it.

HUH?!? Is my phone doing something it isn't supposed to be? Honestly, no one else's rotates?

Edit: Just noticed indolent's did too... even though it doesn't anymore. :(

Well, I have just this to say...

So many people reporting that their phones are defective... This is one defect I don't want fixed.

Does this possibly have something to do with the number of apps on the home screen? I'm pretty sure mine stopped doing it right around when I started modifying the default home screen...

That's a thought. Quite possible. To the people whose screen rotates while on the homescreen, how many icons do you have?

I have 4 in the middle.. three original and one battery widget. All in the original location... then I have my weather widget. On the right screen I have 4 apps, and on the right screen I have 2.

Any chance there's a home screen app running on that droid? That would allow for the rotatipn depending on the app.

No... I haven't tackled anything home screen-related yet. I haven't even installed that many apps yet. Docs to go, google voice, hi hiker, locale, barcode scanner, shop savvy, nesoid, and a weather widget.
