Hot Battery? Record it's Temp

If you think that your battery is getting too hot record it's temperature so that anyone interested in researching the issue has some consistent numbers.

To do this, go to your phone and:

-Dial: *#*#4636#*#* (You don't have to press Call)
-Press: Battery information
-Post: Battery temperature

Mine, after it's been sleeping is: 23.8*C

I don't know if the temperature can be displayed in *F.

I haven't found an App that records CPU temp for the Incredible, if it's possible.

 
records highest temp or shows current temp?

tempmonitor works on the Inc. system panel and many other apps also show the current temp.

No App needed for battery temp....or do you mean that the ones you're talking about will read the CPU temp? A CPU temperature App is the one that I haven't encountered.

the apps i listed and many others as well, will show current battery temp. there is no need to punch a funky number that i'll never remember into the dial pad to get this info. it's more convenient in an app that we can just open. even some of the battery widgets people seem to love will show the battery temp.

i suggested tempmonitor because it puts the temp right in your notification panel so it's right there constantly updating. i was really nice on my rooted and overclocked droid. i tested it on the Inc and it was nice to see that it worked on it, just the battery temp of course, not the cpu temp. on the moto droid seeing the cpu temp required being rooted and a custom kernal to be loaded, i would imagine it would be the same on this phone.
 
anyway, i've been streaming music over Wifi using XiiaLive for the last hour and my temp is at 30.9c right now. it stays much much cooler than my overclocked Moto Droid. :)
 
Gotcha. I'm totally picking up what you're putting down.

On a side note, I actually thought that there would be more posts responding. There seems to be a fair number of folks concerned about how hot the battery feels. I thought a more tangible number would be useful. Shows you what I know. :)
 
i saw something like 42.x or 43.x last night. i was streaming music while browsing the market. seems a bit hot, but whatever.
 
Updated first post with conversion formulas.

Any speculation as to what may be too high of a temp? I've read where some folks get an amber flashing LED and the phone becomes unresponsive.

the battery says 60C on it. so that's definitely to hot. i wonder what temp people are seeing this flashing led at. would be nice to know.
 
Thanks, I never thought to look on the battery itself. I guess that we'll have to wait to see if anyone posts.
 
i've been at 130F+ while streaming pandora, using navigation, and charging in a hot car. When the battery gets too hot, it stops charging.
 
Mines was at 120F the other day after using the navigation for about 45 minutes in the car. Needless to say, I was a little surprised when I grabbed it and almost gave myself a first-degree burn.;)

Other than that, my phone typically reaches a high of 105-110 during normal prolonged use.
 
im guessing the max temp for the snapdragon is probably around 115-150 degrees C. Just to benchmark. The intel core 2 duo 2.5 Ghz has a max temp of 115 i believe. While using skype which seems to kill my computer the max temp it got to was 52 in the second core, and my laptop is always hot. My friends quad core in a gaming case stays around 30 degrees almost all the time, i think it went up to 36 when he was encoding video and burning dvds.
So a safe range is anywhere from 0-45 i would say. Anything above 45 for a cpu you might have long term issues. As for the battery i dont know how hot/cold it should be, i would assume it should stay farely cool all the time, in the 0-20 range.
 
right on the battery it says don't subject it to temps higher than 60C. so it sounds like 60C would be the safe limit.
 
ok, so.... How many of you are using cases, and what kind?
Any trends as to what cases hold in the heat?
Mine regularly runs 100+F ,
have the hard plastic red to blk vzw case .

I made a post wondering if the silicone cases were able to diffuse any of the heat or if it acted as an oven, back when I was still deciding whether to buy the case. Didn't really get an answer, but after buying and using the case, IMO, it seems the temperatures are only a tad bit higher but nothing extraordinary.
 
I have an after market 1600mAh batt and it never gets above 26-30C, so I guess I'm good. The one time I did leave the phone in a hot car for about an hour the phone slowed and lagged noticeably until doing a reset, so I would think keeping it out of warm conditions with heavy use would be prudent. Kinda...duh :/
 
My incredible reached 109 degrees on standby while it had a case on, that apparently prevented it from cooling down. There is an app for battery temperature that is called battery time lite.

Trying doing something intensive for 15-20 minutes. Maybe play a graphic-heavy game.. or run the navigation to a location that takes longer than 15 minutes and see if it does it
 
i had a clear hard case on mine, and it seemed to act as a heat sink. the temps did also seem to be higher.....

system panel has a temp meter in it, too....

i dont use a case anymore.
