N1+LauncherPro=Pure happiness

I'm going to put a plug in for ADW Launcher. It is available in the Market now.

With the right configuration, it is just as fast (if not faster) than LauncherPro, and there are many more options. 2 shortcut buttons, a pull down dock with 6 more shortcuts. Same Sense UI type previews, as well as the option to hide the notification bar, text under shortcuts on the homescreen, etc.

You guys should give it a try :D

Guess I'm just an odd-ball. Tried this, liked the 8 apps at the bottom, but otherwise found no advantages over Helix Launcher 2, certainly no performance advantages. Uninstalled and back to HL2 now.

Much thanks to the OP for pointing this app out.

I tried LauncherPro and for some reason rotated my phone while on the Home screen. I gasped and my eyes bugged out when my entire Home screen rotated to landscape!! This will def come in handy when using the Car Dock.

One prob I have with the app is the amount of time it takes to pull up Applications (I have 50 apps installed) when replacing the bottom permanent shortcuts. Other minor issue is not having the ability to turn off home screen animations.

To reproduce slow App window:
1) Press and hold on an empty area on one of your Home screens
2) Press 'Shortcuts'
3) Press 'Applications'
Took up to 11 seconds for menu containing my apps to appear. Doesn't always take a long time. Sometimes only takes a second.

OR

1) Press and hold one of your permanent shortcuts to bring up list of apps

I found that it was always faster to click on the permanent icon that brings up all apps, press and hold on the app icon you want as shortcut, then release at the location you want app icon on home screen.

Would be nice to have a feature to swap home screens. I.e. swap home screen 1 with home screen 4.

You can pinch and zoom to see all of the screens at once and to easily select where you want to go :)

Yeah, I tried that pinch to zoom feature but I prefer just pushin the home button.

When I began using launcherPro I had default of 3 home screens w screen #2 as the one in center n my home screen. When I switched to 7 homescreens screen #2 was still my default n I wanted to switch screen 2 to screen 4.

Ah that's what you mean: Menu -> Preference -> Default Screen -> 4

Sadly, it bothers me if my home screen isn't the one in the middle. I like symmetry so id only select to have 3, 5, or 7 homescreens w default at center. Just a minor thing but id have to delete all of the contents of my old default homescreen and put it in my new default homescreen when switching the number of homescreens.

Thanks for the quick response tho.

Same, I find the default home screen in the centre minimizes the number of presses to the outer screens. Not a big fan of pinch/zoom function.

I love Launcher Pro but I am so used to the original app drawer, that i may need to go back to the original. Is there way to keep the rolodex look of the drawer?

Anyone else update to v0.4.2? I feel like this is the best update yet. I now have my 5 icon app drawer (which I have been wanting for a while), dock icons on glass, my notification bar hidden, and it's still super smooth. I am surprised this app is still for free.

Will someone explain why you like to get rid of the notification bar? I personally like it as it gives me a quick and easy way to check email or anything else... I am sure there are good reasons to get rid of it, but I can't think of them and just wanted to get an idea of why other people like to do it.

Thanks!

A cleaner look and, if you're using stock Android, the white status bar is hideous.

I'm digging the 4x5 screen. Amazing. No other home replacement has ever been able to do something like this.

Im new to this and I'm confused.. I downloaded the launcher pro app but I don't know how to use it?

Laucher pro is a replacement home launcher. It gives you option that the N1 launcher doesn't like the ability to customize the dock with your own apps. You can have FIVE rows of apps instead of 4 in the screen. Just play with it, go into settings and start changing things and see what you like. That's what most of us did when we downloaded our first home replacement app.

Here is the official website if you want more information: LauncherPro

I meant how do I switch from the stock home launcher to launcher pro? I can't figure that out.

VMX, download launcher pro from the app market, the first time you go back to your home screen it's going to ask you what launcher you want to use, first check off the box that says "Use by default for this action" then click on LauncherPro.

Now the fun begins. When you are on the main screen hit the menu button and then hit "Preferences", this will bring you to all the options that LauncherPro offers such as:
Number of Screens-the N1 comes stock with 5 this will give you the choice up to 7.

Default Screen-This will set what screen will be your home. Most guys like the middle screen as there home so if you pick the option to have 7 screens then choose 4 to be the middle.

Enable Auto-Rotation-This will allow your home and app draw to be displayed in Landscape.

Home key to default screen-This will let you choose if you want your home key to bring you back to your home screen or open the "sky view"

Dock Background-This gives you the option to change the way the icons are displayed on the bottom of the screen, I have mine set to glass.

Hide Notification Bar-Hides the top bar, you can bring it up if you hit the menu key.

Home button on app draw-Shows a home button to exit the app drawer.

Hide icon labels-Hides the test under the home screen icons.

Advance Settings:

5 icon rows in homes screen-your default is 4, I left it at 4.

Elastic scrolling-Enables an elasticity effect when scrolling through homescreens.

Drawer columns portrait-choose how many icons you want to be displayed in portrait mode in the app drawer (I changed mine to 5).

Drawer columns landscape-same as above.

Opening speed

Play around and see what suits your needs.

I meant how do I switch from the stock home launcher to launcher pro? I can't figure that out.

Download Home Switcher :D It makes switching from different launcher much easier if you have 2+ launchers that you switch between.

Why should I have to keep dling things? Seems unnecessary. I DLed launcher pro and I wanna use it.. it should be simple. Another question... I don't have froyo yet, if I use launcher pro now.. how would it affect the upgrade?

Can I change those 4 icons on the button of my screen?

I use 3 other home launchers (LP, Helix and ADW) so Home Swticher comes in handy :P

No, launcher pro is just an app, it has no effect on you upgrade :p

Can I change those 4 icons on the button of my screen?

Yes, just drag the shortcut apps you have on the homescreen down to the dock. Or hold down on an app on the deck and a shortcut screen will pop up for you to select your app.

Does LauncherPro let you edit names of icons? I don't care about changing the icon pic, but I hate having long names ending in "..." on my screens.

BetterCut only works with the default Home app.
