Official 4G/WiMAX Coverage Areas

I'm even further out west in Fairfax and have seen 4G at respectable speeds all the way out to Manassas (~4.5 down, ~1 up). Most of the towers appear to be concentrated along 66, not sure what it looks like out towards Dulles.

They have actually had it in a lot of areas for a while now. I remember getting a signal in some places back at the end of 2008. They just won't advertise it as available until the coverage is better. Wimax requires a big web of antennas to create sort of a blanket of wifi-like coverage over a large area.

Where in Fairfax are you? I live by the government center (work in Vienna) and I haven't seen 4G once since I bought this phone.

I work in Rosslyn...so I'll try it tomorrow.

I live in Woodbridge & I can't think I can pick it up here...but I use wi-fi in the house anyway.

none in San Francisco yet.

But they will be installing clearwire tower in downtown area. The tower is said to be put near the Nordstrom Rack and REI.

My buddy that lives near there got a letter for the notification of tower installation by the city. There's also a public hearing for it too.

I ended up getting 4g getting off the highway at College. Lost coverage in our building at 38 Commerce. Had it bouncing up and down inside Hopocat. The poor overage in Hopcat killed my battery pretty quick.

I am being nieve to think that when they say there will be 4G in San Francisco, I believe that they will be covering ALL of San Francisco? I don't think a tower downtown will reach me. Is there any way to find out where they are putting towers?

I dont know where all the towers are located. But i do know that they are putting on in that location

Picked up Evo 4g yesterday. Store told me Palo Alto towers are in test mode (and only ones in Bay Area currently). I live in hills bordering PA and can get 2 bars 4G if standing outside (none in the house where I get 5-6 bars for 3G). Here are my speed tests using speedtest.net and Modesto, CA server:

I was heading north on Division Ave from 28th this evening and started picking up a signal near the Burton/Division intersection, which really surprised me. Rain really kills Wimax, though, as it it still wouldn't connect even when I reached downtown.

My office is on the north side of Bridgewater Place and I can only pull a poor signal if I put my phone right next to the window, but I got a strong signal on top of the BWP parking ramp yesterday. First test pulled 6Mb down and 2Mb up on the speakeasy.net Chicago server. Subsequent tests were consistently near 3Mb down, 1Mb up.

When I was at Best Buy picking up my Evo, the guy next to me picking one up as well mentioned that he knew where there was a 4G signal in the Minneapolis area. He said it was the sole location and I am guessing it is a Test location of some sort. He couldn't reveal the location because he said he was under an NDA. (I told him he should anonymously geo-tag it so that we can all enjoy :D -- he was mean and didn't seem amused and said that would probably violate the NDA...jerk)

My best guesses are some sort of important business area, or government building, but I have no idea where to even begin.

My question is for anyone that might have any good ideas. Where could this location be? Where are the typical test areas in these pre-4G cities?

Try the MAJOR airport

Rockford here.

I was in the parking lot for St. Marys on Jefferson Friday night and was jamming out to some 4G service.

This phone is great. Can't get enough of it!!!

I have to recharge the battery three times a day from playing games and surfing the web.

Not to hijack the thread... but how is everyones 3G service? This is my first Sprint phone. On average, my download is 638 kbps and upload is 524 kpbs. This is basically in the circle of Kipling, 470 and 6th. The numbers seem low compared to averages I have found online. Is it possible I have a bad phone? I never have more than a couple bars ( I know that don't mean anything) but voice has been wonderful. It is just that data that seems to lag for me. I having been streaming SirusXM a lot and I get data dropouts about every 30 mins or so. Is this the norm for Denver?

Comedy Works, huh? Maybe I will venture there and check out the 4G before I decide what to do.

Thats strange, i have much better speeds on 3g according to speedtest.net
1800 kbps down, 710 up and 150 ms latency. Im surprised your wifi latency over comcast is over 100ms. I guess it depends where youre trying to connect, but local servers should be fast. I get pings of 25ms on average from evo-wifi-router-comcast to my linode VPS at fremont
