Change Generic Windows Icon to Android Icon. **UPDATED**

I created a version of the green android icon with alpha channels (transparency) intact, and all sizes embedded so it scales up to the largest preview size in Vista. (Should work for XP too, but I haven't tested)

(If you still see the old icon after replacing the file, you may have to reboot to clear the windows icon cache)

Hey wirbly, why dont you pack em all up and post it here. Then i will add them to the list. Thanks a bunch by the way.

cool trick btw... but i've got 2 questions. First, I by accidently checked hidden rather than uncheck it... does that mean its deleted? and second, how do you get the icon to look like the phone, because i put it in the folder, and then realizing that wouldn't be enough, went to properties, customize tab, and chose select icon, clicked the G1 Icon, and nothing changed.

Thats more of a Windows question. To show hidden files, choose Tools>Folder Options>View. Choose the "Show hidden files and folders" button. Viola!

To change the icon to anything you want, rename said ".ico" file to Android.ico.

when click on link to download the g1 vista icon it takes me to another page and still wont allow me to download

is there any chance of posting it on here for download

i know the white one is available on here, but after the black one

thanks

ignore managed to sort by using FF

Yea i need to find a better place to host my files. Windows Skydrive is terrible and seems to always be down or timing out.

This is great. makes it easy for those that have several USB or external USB drives, to recognize the Droid.

Can you also email it to me :)

The purpose of this tutorial is to change the generic windows icon of your G1 to an Android icon. What icon you ask? The generic removable disk icon given to your G1 when you plug it in to your PC. i thought it would be fun to create one that differentiates it from the rest. So here we go!

1. First of all we are going to download the pack ive created for you here.

2. Second we are going to rename the drive to Android G1 like i have on this image.

3. Third we are simply going to unpack the files you downloaded using an application like, WinRAR or 7-Zip. WinRAR offers you a 30day trial and 7-Zip is an open source freeware product. Choose one that fits you.

4. Now we are simply going to drag it into the root of the drive. Seeing since mine is the "K:/" drive, im going to place it in there. Once that is done, highlight both icons and choose properties and check off the "Hidden" attribute so that you don't accidentally delete them.

5. You're all set! Enjoy your new icon! Im going to be making a Vista version for all you people that like high quality icons. Stay tuned!

***UPDATE***
I went ahead and created another set. One for Vista and one for XP users. This time, instead of the cute looking android character, i used one of the actual phone. Heres what it looks like. No need to rename files, just drag and drop from the packs ive created.

Worked like a charm! :) Just d/l'd the Vista pack, un"rar"ed it and then connected my G1, mounted the drive (using the notification on the G1) and opened it up in explorer. Dragged the two files over to root and when I unplugged and reconnected the G1 there it was! Slick! (funny how such simple things make us Geeks happy isn't it?) (BTW, I am a GEEk because you can't spell geek without a "EE" and I happen to have one :p)

So simple its stupid. hahahah I love it.

Makes it way easier than looking for the drive when you bounce from a work PC, home PC and then to a Laptop. Blam its the green droid. ;)
