i downloaded sync from htc.com. then ran the file as admin. i get an error every time i open it on my machine after install, but i dont need it for anything. only needed it to root the evo! i hope this helps

Make sure the command that you're using is "adb reboot recovery"

If you've flashed your phone with toast's PC36IMG.ZIP then adb reboot recovery should take you to the stock recovery screen. From there you can run the evo-recovery scripts.
