Those are system files, not directly accessible unless the phone is rooted. There should be backup apps that can retrieve messages.

In the messaging app, you can't as it can only receive messages sent to that device. However if you're using the Google messaging app you can pair another device to receive and send messages via a browser. But I'm not sure if the Jitterbug will be able to do this as I suspect it has limited...

Probably better to start a separate group as it will be more social than technical, so us plopping down in that one might be intrusive. Although, looking more closely the activity in that group is mostly years old so it may not matter that much.
