Hey I see your having some wireless issues and I know how frusterating that must be for you. I know that Gingerbread does allot of strange things changes allot of settings ect. I have worked for a wireless provider before. Not saying I will be able to fix your issue but there are a few things I would like you to try I am just hoping it works for you.
Me myself I had problems with getting my 4G back working when I installed Gingerbread
Go to Settings, Wireless and Network, Mobile Networks top of screen (Use packet data) is checked off. Due to where you are you may want to turn on (Data roaming) also.
Make sure your (Network Mode) is set to (GSM/WCDMA) (auto mode).
Another thing to check to make sure that you are connecting to the right provider: hit the (Network operators) button. It should pop up with a list of networks that are available. Make sure that setting is correct. I did not want to put this into the forums in case you may miss this in due to everyone else posting.
