I have the same concerns you had about Froyo being able to handle multiple Contact sub-folders. whether they will sync, and have the ability to search thru each sub individually. also the ability to modify contacts back to Exchance in the proper sub-folder. I have 2.1 on Vibrant and debating whether to buy Touchdown now or wait for Froyo 2.o
