zip files are easier to share and download. they are more compact and thus take up less space and use less data to download......so zip files are very handy. does what work with jpg? calibre? and jpg are usually used for images. what exactly are you trying to do?

i think how you want to use your tablet is different then most who want something like a laptop experience which is why the keyboard is central. they do make smaller bluetooth keyboards that are more portable. just add a case and find a small bag or backpack to keep them in....and you should...
