    I've got mine!

I upgraded from the Xperia Z, which has served me well for over two years, but it's starting to show a few grey hairs. The IP67 rating is important to me as I'm an "outdoors person" in Scotland, and I've been happy with Sony's take on Android. So I took the plunge on a Z3+ as its successor...

    Android 5.0.2 rollout begins

Sony today began rolling out the Android 5.x (Lollipop) update long-promised for the Xperia Z. Currently only available OTA (over-the-air) in a few selected locales, the updates are about 700MB big and sweeten the Xperia Z with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS among other improvements such as...

As revealed in a Phandroid news article posted yesterday, Sony finally announced the successor to the Z3 at an event in Japan. The form factor is very similar to previous Z-series handsets, featuring a metal frame supporting a 5.2" 1920 x 1080 display in a body measuring 146 x 72 x 6.9mm and...

    Firmware 10.5.1.A.0.292 (UK generic) released

Available now via PC Companion and, for the first time ime, an OTA update. The OS version is still 4.4.4 but the kernel is updated along with some pre-installed apps. Newer is better, right? :) n.b. updating will result in loss of root access. Re-root as per .283 firmware instructions i.e...

Are phones now required to mount their internal memory as emulated primary SD?

I hope my theory is correct... let me know, please. :) One useful tip: Once you've configured TiB to your liking, make sure that the "Auto-sync" option is enabled in Preferences. Then, whenever you reinstall, all your settings will be preserved. If you keep backups on the external card, this...

Are phones now required to mount their internal memory as emulated primary SD?

They are the same, to all intents and purposes. /sdcard is the traditional mountpoint for Android's internal storage, and is nowadays symlinked to several others for compatibility reasons. Think of them as sophisticated shortcuts - multiple pointers to individual files. They all are. :)...

    Controlling permissions given to apps

This thread should be a great help in better understanding app permissions in Android: http://androidforums.com/android-applications/36936-android-permissions-explained-security-tips-avoiding-malware.html Things are often not as clear-cut as they seem. To use one of your examples, it's normal...

[App][Free] Voltage Music Player (Material Design)

It makes a big difference - developer announcements should be confined to this sub-forum, as per the Site Rules. ;) Having said that, thanks for the prompt edit. I'd recommend adding a few links to screenshots to showcase the unique design, as those always help attract users.

Hands-on: Android 5.0 Lollipop new apps and features [VIDEO]

Oh they could probably do it alright, but only by some complicated method of switching between multiple frameworks and providing several different complete sets of drawable resources. IOW completely impractical. If you really crave this unique level of customisation, then the answer is to root...
