You'll only get malware Android phone if you go installing applications from nefarious, unknown and untrusted sources. Just be careful what you install, check permissions closely, like does wallpaper really need the camera, internet, phone calls and SMS. You wont get anything from email or browsing the internet with it.
Have you got Google Market on your phone? If yes, you should be able to install Google Maps from that, alternatively go here..
