Security between user accounts

Samimari

Lurker
Hello, I want to install a banking app on my phone, but am worried about security. So, I was thinking of making a separate user, only used for banking, minimizing chances of being exposed to a virus from a random internet site/ apps not from the PlayStore. Would a separate user account make any difference if my main user account happens to be infected? If not what are my options?

welcome to AF!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be honest, if someone wanted to hack your phone, it can be done no matter what you do. i do mobile banking from time to time, but most is done at home. And most mobile banking apps are fairly secure and encrypted. I'm not that paranoid enough to go to great lengths to hide my identity. For me i always monitor my account and Wellsfargo has been great. I have only had one unknown weird activity which i notified Wells Fargo and they refunded my money. They locked my account, gave me a new account and card just in case.

what i'm trying to say is just use your common sense. don't do mobile banking where there are a lot of people around, especially if you are at a Starbucks or other public place. Also monitor your account and you should be fine.

you can install, one of many anti-virus protection apps that are out there. I have been using Lookout, since the early days of Android. but there are many others like Avast and Norton.

Thanks for the reply. I will heed your advice and not do stupid things, but will probably still lose sleep over security. I hope my bank is as accomodating as yours. Besides, having it on my phone will anable me to monitor it much better than currently, so i guess it is a bit of a give and take...

yeah it will always be a give or take, just use your common sense. when i use mobile banking in public, its very quick. i'm in and out.

if you have an anti-virus like Lookout or Avast you can at least sleep better at night.....i sure do.

like I said just monitor your account and you should be fine.
