Any way to completely back up a Samsung J327A running Android 7.0?

Hi All,

I have a new Samsung J327A, replacing one I previously owned that had a very badly cracked screen. It is currently running Android 7.0. On my older J327A, I always said "yes" to accept and install updates. At some point it updated to the latest Android for that phone (8.0)? This update had a newer version of Google Maps that crashed frequently, and introduced the split screen feature which I could not disable. This feature does not work well on phones with smaller screens such as mine.

I'm asking if there's a way to completely back up my current phone? E.g. I want to see what updates need to be applied, but would want a way to completely restore the phone to what it's running now, in case any update brings back the problems mentioned above.

Thank you,
Fred.

well the only way to downgrade from an ota really is to root your phone, install a custom recovery (mainly TWRP), and the you can flash an custom rom thats out there. whats the exact model of your phone? it seems there are a few j3's out.

Thanks for the response. Here's some more phone details, does that let you know the exact model #?

ok well i found this guide that might help downgrade your phone's ota. it will factory reset everything but it should work.
https://www.techeligible.com/2017/08/16/upgrade-downgrade-firmware-samsung-galaxy-j3/

however, if you want to root the phone here are some links that you will need:

here is a guide:
https://hopemyworlds.com/root-samsung-galaxy-j3-2017/

once your device is rooted then next step is to get a custom recovery installed. TWRP is what everyone uses. here is a guide for that:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...overy-twrp-3-1-1-1-samsung-galaxy-j3-t3709056

once you have root access and have twrp installed you can go here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j3-2017/development

and checkout some of the roms that are out there.

Thank you, that is super helpful! Should I try rooting the phone 1st before doing an upgrade (to ensure it works etc.)? I haven't done that before.

Not to burst your bubble if your downgrading via odin just a heads up Samsung No longer allows downgrading they block it if it has security patches beyond December 2018
