Help Can't Set Up Email

To give some context...I had to reset my phone about a month ago when it was acting up (the battery would drain quickly for no reason). The reset worked but now I'm having trouble setting up my email!

I go into the default email app (which I like) and type in my Gmail account information, all is good. Then I click on the password field and I am met with a 403 error, stating "disallowed_useragent"!

I didn't do anything special with the phone and email was working just fine before the reset. I prefer using this app because it allows me to switch between accounts and I like the UI. I'm currently using Outlook which I don't like as much.

How do I get Google to allow me to login?
 
not sure really, i have used two gmail accts before and was able to switch back and forth easily. i never had to use another email client to log into gmail. have you just tried to clear cache and data for the email app?
 
This isn't going to be a likely fix but try using a browser on a different device or a PC, and log into your Gmail account:

Scroll down to the bottom and in the lower right corner click on the 'Details' link. In the resulting window that pops up, click on the 'Sign out all web sessions' button. This will log out any previous logins to your email account -- perhaps because you're using the same device that 403 error is tied to a still active login before the Factory Reset with your attempt to re-authenticate your account after the Reset.

Tried clearing the cache, same error.

I'm sure if I'm ever allowed to log in I'll have no problem switching between accounts, but I can't even get into one right now. That's the issue.

Interesting theory and I gave it a shot, but no dice.
 
Regarding the default email app you mentioned clearing the app's cache but have you also done the clear data? Clearing the cache only deletes the app cache, which consists of just temp files and non-vital data the app uses to function; clearing the data deletes the app cache and all settings and configurations for the app, essentially returning the app to its original, first-use state.

yes, I made sure to clear everything.
 
Yes I can login to the Gmail app just fine. Not sure why I'm not allowed to login to the default Android email app.

Since you're able to access your Gmail account using a web interface and the Gmail app at least it's a matter where accessing your account isn't an issue, so the bottom line is apparently you really, really want to be able to use the default email app, yes?
Just so we all have a better accounting of the entire matter, is there a particular reason for this? The default email client is OK and quite adequate for basic needs but taking into consideration there so many other, third-party email apps freely available that have much bigger feature sets, more elaborate and alterable user interfaces, and more capabilities in handling different email service accounts, I'm really curious about this fixation to use only the default email app.
 
its not dead.....you just kept it alive.....lol

not sure really. never used another email client to log into my gmail account when i already have the gmail app and is already setup when i activate a new device. i have seen where the default email app has trouble syncing with other email servers....like yahoo. that is why i always recommend using the actual app associated with whatever email acct you have.

Alright. I'm currently using Outlook. I do not like the format at all. The default email app was sleeker and I was able to switch between addresses whenever I wanted. Not sure if I can do that with Outlook but regardless it just doesn't feel right.

I don't understand why I'm not allowed to log in to my email using the default app. Seems like it should be something simple or stupid or both.
 
Given that something has become corrupted with the default email app when you did that Factory Reset and nothing you've tried to fix that has worked out, your options at this point are to take your phone to a phone service shop and have them look into it, or since the user interfaces with the Gmail app nor the Outlook app appeal to you than you should give some thought into trying out one of the many third-party email apps available on the Play Store:

Blue Mail gets a lot of praise in several online articles, Aqua Mail is a popular choice here in AF, my favorite is K9-Mail -- all of them are configurable and quite capable. Take a look at the screen captures that each app has showing their interfaces and try out the ones that you will find most comfortable to use.
 
Have you tried messing with the Server settings at all?
I don't know much about them but I do try and switch settings to get my email to work.

I use the stock email app (LG and Samsung), Typemail, Maildroid, and some others and I've had my share of error messages when setting up emails. I have 3 email accounts I like to have on one app (Gmail, Outlook and Work)

For example Security type (SSL or SSL (Accepts all certificates) - Try both

Port - Try each one.

There's other settings so you will need to try and switch and experiment to see which combo works.

Just be sure to document your settings before and after you start to randomly experiment with them as you can break access to your email account through any email client app. Every email service will have their established settings on their respective sites so it shouldn't be necessary to just guess at what does or doesn't work.

Thanks for that note. You're right for Gmail.

But when you know more about android than the IT people at work (if there is even an IT person lol), you sometimes have to use what you know to get it to work (for my work email address)
 
If you are trying to set up an email account that's being served off an independent email server, contact whomever set up and is maintaining your company's email service so he/she can provide you with the necessary info. If that's not possible and you don't know who is managing that email server than that's a pretty serious privacy and security issue that should be addressed.
