Help Extend or prevent USB 3.0 transfer mode timeout

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with about 64 GB of photos.
I am unable to transfer them to Windows 10 in USB 3.0 transfer mode.
Steps I'm taking:
1) I put the Galaxy S5 in USB 3.0 mode (it only lasts 5 minutes then cancels out of USB 3.0 mode)
2) From Windows Explorer in Win 10, I copy and paste the Camera folder
3) Windows Explorer begins calculating the time to copy files
4) The Galaxy S5 waits 5 minutes, sees no data transfer, and drops out of USB 3.0 transfer mode
5) Windows Explorer copy, then fails, because phone disconnects USB and re-connects in 2.0 mode

USB 2.0 transfer mode takes HOURS longer for 64 GB of photos.
Is there a way to increase the timeout or prevent the USB 3.0 transfer mode timeout on the Samsung Galaxy S5?
Or is there a way to prevent Windows Explorer from calculating time to copy (which takes longer than 5 minutes)?
 
Instead of relying on Windows Explorer, try using Samsung's Smart Switch utility:

Installing Smart Switch will also install the latest Samsung driver (just in case that might have anything to do with the file transfer problem), and maybe copying files through its interface might not involve any of those timing out issues.

Another more offhand suggestion is to install a file transfer optimizer like TeraCopy:

Using TeraCopy would result in noticeable improvements up to Win7 or so, can't really say it makes as much a difference Win10 systems. But there are inherent speed differences between USB2.x and USB3.x so this might help with eliminating throughput issues but not necessarily speed issues.

With Windows whenever you mount any drive it will get assigned a letter. If your S5 isn't getting one, it's not mounted so nothing is going to be able to interact with it. In that case it might just be a USB issue but the first thing to always try is just restart your S5 and your PC. But with USB, if you're plugging your phone into a USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port (especially when this involves a no external power supply USB hub). Or try a different cable.
