I hear you! I've consciously chosen NOT to partake of certain modern 'conveniences' because I think they're ridiculous, unnecessary, and/or too invasive.
Oh don't get me wrong, I love technology. But from my perspective, I don't really need this level of automation. My life just isn't that complex. And yes there probably is an element of invasiveness and potential snooping, but worse than that, do you trust the security on all these IP enabled devices?
It's just the next step in surveillance capitalism. If they can learn how you use your heating, what you keep in your fridge and for how long, etc, that will help them direct your spending.

Yup, I can well believe that. In a world where people can stick any old crap on YouTube, and see the advertising money rolling in, your preferences and lifestyle choices are like gold dust to advertisers.
