Help I keep getting a two tone notification sound, but there's nothing in the menu

I know this is a super old thread but I'm having the same issue with the two tone notification but doesn't show anything on my screen. I don't have Yahoo and it never happens when I'm roaming, I'm only roaming once in a blue moon because I'm disabled and I stay in the same area the majority of the time. Anyone else know why this could be happening? It really is super annoying.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I'm not convinced that I've fixed it but I'm hopeful. I'm using HTC one m8.... Went into settings, network and wireless, more, turned off NFC. So far, so good.

I am having the same issue with my Note 5 just got. it was fine for about the first few weeks, now it randomly chirps at me, no reason i can think of. i have blocked most but not all app notifications, NFC is off, system volume is muted, tried everything, not roaming.

it is doing it less often than when it started, tells me i may have stopped some of the chirps but something is still allowing it to chirp and i can't figure out what it is. Very annoying. Hated Apple, finally switched back to Android, then this happens? very disruptive. even have the phone set to "Do not disturb", still does it.

use T mobile network, please help

Ugh! This just started happening to me too! Makes the sound so often (like 2-6 times in a row sometimes, and about every 10-15 min on average) that I have to keep my phone on silent. There's nothing in the notification panel, and I went into everything I could find to see what has that sound as the notification - nothing. It happens regardless of the charge, it just started a few days ago and nothing has really changed in my settings, usage, etc. I have a Note 5... I'll keep looking but as of now it's a mystery! I hope someone can help to figure it out! It's done it at least 6 times since I started writing this post!

I use T-mobile and have a Note 5 as well. I've had it for a while and it just started a few days ago randomly.

I know this thread is a little old, but I didn't see that the issue was resolved.

It absolutely IS the roaming sound. That triangle by the signal meter is the roaming indicator.

I don't think it is the roaming in every case. My roaming is turned off, never even had it on. It just started making this sound a few days ago.

I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!! :p

I've been scouring the internet and forums to see if I can find the culprit. I tried a bunch of different things and ever since I tried this last step, I haven't had to hear that stupid sound!

I went into my settings and turned off the "sync" ... (actually I pulled the menu down from the top and turned the sync off that way. I couldn't find how to di it in the actual settings - I have a Galaxy Note 5. I'll add a screen shot to show what I'm talking about). Ever since I turned off the sync I haven't heard it; it's been quite a few hours and before that I was hearing it at least 3-4 x's/hour, at a minimum.

Other things I tried but failed were: editing notifications in various apps such a yahoo mail, gmail, Facebook, etc., turning off the roaming, turning off the WiFi, turning off the NFC, turning off Bluetooth... I know it didn't have to do with roaming or the network because, unlike the screen shot from the other user, I didn't get any signs, symbols, triangles, etc when the sound chirped. Just an annoying sound with nothing else to show for it!

If I hear that dumb sound again I'll come back and update this, I'll also turn the sync back on and see if it comes back.

Either way it makes no sense because I haven't changed anything - haven't added any apps, fully charged, no change in usage, settings, etc - and it just started happening out of nowhere.I hope I fixed it! *fingers crossed*

YUP! AS SOON AS I TURNED THE SYNC BACK ON IT CAME BACK! Stupid phone! At least I know now.... it was driving me insane! Waking me up at night, would even chirp with the sound off. Whew! That was getting annoying. Too bad I can't have my sync on though. Oh well. Just happy I figured it out, although we shouldn't have to do stuff like that just to turn off an invisible notification.

Okay, I'm going absolutely NUTS! Yesterday it made the noise 10+ times in the mall! I too, have the Galaxy Note 5 (got in Sept), but I don't have that pull down screen. Going into my settings, I can't find the sync folder?

I have had a similar problem. Turned out it was because I had changed my email password on my office PC and my phone was trying to log into my account.

Chimed twice whenever it tried to sync (every 15 minutes or so). Check your email passwords on your phone.

Could also be because it can't connect to the email server for some other reason.

Star, I hope you solved this for me and everyone else. I tried EVERYTHING you mentioned in your post (I don't have yahoo, NFC didn't work, etc. etc.) I suppose I'll know tomorrow.

The beeping noise is the same double-beep that I hear when I have an incoming text while I'm on the phone but the worst of it all is that the person I'm speaking to on the phone when it beeps, hears me cut out for a short second. So people are constantly asking, "what did you say, you cut out".

WORTH NOTING: I also tried one other thing. After going into Settings -> My Device -> Call -> Call Alerts...I unchecked the box for MINUTE MINDER. It falls under "Call Status Tones" along with two other check boxes for "Call Connect Tone" and "Call End Tone". Figured it's worth a shot because I'm at the point where I want a new phone. ANNOYING!!

Go to home screen and scroll down from the top and look for a X at the top of the screen, click the X.The two tone notification is letting you know that there is a message, Facebook or IM

It absolutely IS the roaming sound. That triangle by the signal meter is the roaming indicator.

To turn off the sound from switching from regular service to roaming, from the home screen, hit Menu, then Settings, then click on Mobile Network, then un-check the "Data roaming sound." It should stop making the sound when switching to/from roaming. I hope this helps.

I have a samsung galaxy s5. Started getting that same 2 tone beep today. Not roaming sitting in my home. Checked that. No a yahoo mail because I don't have that service. But I do have gmail and hotmail on my phone. Time stamp of new emails does not seem to coincide with beeping. In settings. sound and notifications all seem right EXCEPT. system sound is mute and can't get it to turn on. So that is porbably not it. Anybody know anything else to try?

My phone is a Huawei, for virgin, idk my boyfriend's phone type but it is also a virgin account. Both of our phones are doing the wacky audio alert but no actual alert. It started about a week ago for us. It was annoying! It recently stopped. I doubt it's a roaming alert because i live in a dead zone and the signal is always low or no signal, and i don't think virgin mobile prepaid roams. I cant find any setting for roaming. It stopped without me doing anything, i hope it doesn't start again.

I think i figured out what was causing my phantom audio alert. Many days ago i accidentally deleted hiya app. Phantom alerts stopped. Today i reinstalled hiya app and phantom alerts started again. I deleted hiya app and the phantom alerts stopped. I don't understand why the phantom alerts started though, because i used hiya for many months without problems. The phantom alerts may have started after an update. There were no settings on the hiya app to turn off that phantom alert so i deleted it and will find a different app to block unwanted texts and calls. My boyfriend's phone also has hiya app, so that is probably what is causing his phantom alert also.

Oh my! Not the hiya app! Phantom alerts started again! Idk wtf to do!

The phone makes a little two tone notification, a mid note then a higher note. The LED flashes as if there's a notification. I open the phone, and the menu says I have no new notifications. No texts, emails, etc.

It's really annoying, it's happened about 5 times today. Anybody know how to track down a rogue/ghost notification?

Go to settings then "G" and look for connected apps, and there you will see what you have connected to your device. If you see something unfamiliar or that you have forgotten that you've linked your device to. Just long press the item to unlink it from device because that's where game notifications and websites links are stored.

I landed here searching on-line for ... this exact issue. Was driving me crazy.

That is the two tone beep but no notification showing and no sign of what caused it. It leaves me wishing there was an app that recorded every sound the phone made and what app made it so you could check the log.

Reading here prompted me, given it seemed to be happening a lot right now to watch it like an eagle for a while.

Turns out I was in luck, and found the cause too. Mine was different. It was the a lock screen notification sound. That is it made that beep when the phone locked after inactivity. Which explains why it was happening a lot. It beeps so I check it, nothing, then it locks and beeps, and I check it etc. Aaargh.
