Anyway, SamMobile is the place to get Samsung official OEM firmware. I recommend alway checking the validity with Md5 software or app. Just look for the hash tag (md5) provided with the firmware you are downloading the compare it to the md5 check sume of what you downloaded. If there is even 1 digit that dose not match do not installl. Erase and redownload and check again. If there is a discrepancy in lets say the boot partition that may just hard brick you device. The often talk about md5 and its importance and it is for a very good reason.

Well since this outdated thread is being dredged up and dragged through the mud, for all those masses who are going to fixate on out of date info it's important to fill in what might be pertinent points:
-- Doing online searches for older, dated devices will most likely result in XDA references anyway
-- If the suggestion implies using a custom ROM, not mentioning that this probably requires rooting the device is a disservice. Also, depending on the device model, for a lot of dated models the ROMs, custom or stock, will not be current either.
-- Sites like sammobile are using stock Samsung ROMs, obtained from either Samsung or the carriers themselves, so the ROMs it has stored in its download servers are the same as the ones that would be applied by OTA upgrades. There are not going to be 'special' stock ROMs that contain newer Android versions.

So you think XDA is only for outdated phones lol. RIGHT? LOL

I think you may have mos interpreted what I was tring to say. I did not mention root when I mentioned XDA. Many senior members post Official tar firmware and Md5 for verification. The md5 not only varies the validity of the download but can also be used as comparison to the same firmware md5 in Sammobile. Im not sure how familiar you are with Sammobile but from your response I can tell you are knowledgeable in regards to Android. SamMobile is great but it offer a free download at a snails pass and a payed download at a much higher speed. It has been my experience that downloading at the slow passed (fee) on SamMobile often ends in a failed md5. Where as XDA, is fast and free.

Although I mentioned XDA as a source it was in regards to official firmware. If theres an expected update they will usually post when it is expected. As for your implication as to root being a disservice it is subjective. Yes I have root, custom rom, custun kernel and bla bla bla .... And yes I have a dated Note 4 quad core 32 bit but I'll run circles around a note 5 octicore 64 bit in most respects but of course not all. I am great full to the developers at XDA for that they provide. So as you see a disservice I see opportunity and serviceability.

I really dont see whats the big deal about answering an old post? The member that posted was simply ignored for 3 1/2 years and when someone does answer. Omg hahahehe all in good humor. I will admit I am a horrible speller but that does not mean I am ignorant. Furthermore, I post on Note 4 because that is what I am most familiar with.

.
so here is the thing.....we get this a lot where someone posts in a long dead thread. some have great points, some are trying to get answers, some are trying to help the op who posted once and then leaves and never is heard back in this forum. i mean we get this a lot. it clogs the forum sometimes with these posts.

i think one thing that sets you from the others is that you are genuine. you just want to help others which is why i'm cool with you bringing old threads back to life. this is the spirit of AF. Android Forums is here to help people and that is what you are trying to do.

I apologize, Im new and it was and is not my intention cause a disruption or any discord within the forums . To tell you the truth , I thought dam! whats the big deal. I got more of a response for answering that the guy or gall's question than the person who posted it. I was not aware of that which you mentioned. I thank you for your explanation and information but most of all taking the time to explain it to me in in a kind professional manner.
Im guessing that when I answer a thread it appears on the top of the forum and mot just within a particular thread? Is that correct? If so then yes, I can see your point. Oops

Oh and not to drag it in the mud but just to inform that firmware is technically not considered a rom but if you are referring to Custom roms in regards to the Note 4 Im happy to say "The disservice continues on XDA" jk. I. has to say something as your communication is suggestive of how little I know and that you are myvh more knowlegable than I. Perhaps, If you say I am a horrible speller than I wouldnt have ground to retort, but in regards to a Note 4 .....
