S5 not charging

It was ok until today. Now it won't charge and I've tried two different chargers and two different batteries. I've also used canned air. What can I do?

I've used four cables, one of them brand new from the package, and that as well as two others are actual Samsung with that weird extra thing on the side. I've also tried three batteries, two of them official Samsung. There's also a Sun Zos, but that somehow doesn't fit. There's a message sometimes about making sure it's a genuine cable, but since most of them are, that's not much help. The time's wrong, too.

what about a factory reset? and i think it sounds like it might be time to retire the s5. its been out a while. even if you figure out the charging issue. you will eventually find it hard to find apps that will work. and the phone will slow down considerably as apps struggle with the low amount of ram the phone has. it will make a good mp3 player.....like my note 4. but i'm also having trouble keeping it charged. off cable and no use its is dead within a day. i ordered a new battery, but i know even those will be hard to find soon.

I can't afford another phone. I'm "lucky" to have this one. I guess I'll just have to do without it.
well that sucks. there are plenty affordable budget phones that you can get that might fit your finances. i would at least head out to your carrier and see what's available and works for you.

.....if anything you can start a go fund me campaign to help get you a phone:goofydroid::goofydroid::goofydroid::goofydroid::goofydroid:

i'll pitch in for it.;);););)

I"ve never done that. How does it work? I have to thank you for being willing to donate.
just head one out to a store that sells your carrier like best buy or your carriers store. they will have out phones that you can play around with. just ask the salesperson there what your budget is and they should be able to find something that should work for you.

Is there some kind of external device I can use to charge the battery and then put it back in the phone? Yes, I'm that desperate. Would cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth help?

Would it be possible to charge the battery outside the phone somehow? Would one of those power banks be able to substitute for the battery? Please help!

The power banks work by charging the battery through the charging port, so if your regular charger isn't working a power bank won't work either.
If you've tried different batteries, chargers and cables you've eliminated all the external possibilities so unfortunately this points to an internal problem with the phone. You can try a factory reset as a last resort, of course back up your stuff first.
There are no "official" external battery chargers sold by Samsung or other mainstream vendors. You might find some Chinese "universal" ones floating around on Ebay, Amazon etc. but these are sketchy and certainly not UL approved.
Another option that may or may not work, depending on where the actual problem is, would be wireless charging. The S5 is wireless charging capable but was not equipped for it from the factory, making it work requires installing a wireless charging coil. Samsung had a replacement back cover that included the coil, these weren't cheap and at this point it's unlikely there are still any available and they also made the phone thicker so you couldn't use a case any more. There are aftermarket charging coils that fit inside the original back cover and don't add significant thickness to the phone, these are pretty cheap and still around on Amazon and probably elsewhere. In addition to the coil you'd need a wireless charging pad, cable and charger. Again this might or might not work depending on what's broken.
I used one of the cheapo charging coils on my S5 for a while but eventually took it out because it was damaging the batteries from too much heat.
And I do have to agree that this may be the last straw for your S5. Like it or not it may be time for something else.

Yes there is. Has adjustable prongs to fit most phone battery sizes, including S5.

This is one I found on Taobao under "universal phone battery charger", but Amazon or Ebay should have them as well.

It's pulling that same stunt again. I guess it was fine this morning but now it says it isn't charging. Once again I plugged unplugged and replugged: wall wart, cord, phone. I shut off the power strip and switched it on again. Why is it doing this?
