Who says "toxic hellstew"?
Why would Microsoft fix it (or anything)?
How can a company "acquire Linux"?
(They could choose to use it, but they can't buy it. And no, I don't think MS giving up their dominant closed-source desktop OS is remotely likely).

They're not acquiring linux. They leverage linux for their desktop and cloud computing platforms with "Windows Subsystem for Linux(WSL)" and "Microsoft Azure" respectively. There will be increased usage of linux by Microsoft going forward. Their latest CEO has embraced linux unlike the last buffoon.
Microsoft is not trying to fix linux. Instead they are leveraging it to improve their products and services.
Toxic hellstew? You should elaborate on that.

Well I suggest you post the URL to the ZDnet article here. Otherwise I might think you're just making wild statements.
After you saw the headline, and before posting a thread on ANDROID Forums with such an inflammatory title, you should've read the article. And cited it as your source. That would be much better, all around.

The ram issue can be easily explained and not really a big deal.
I agree with the issue on updates. Slowly, google is improving this, but ultimately cannot be fixed 100%. As long as OEMs are responsible for updates, this will always be a problem since OEMs are slow to update. The only 100% fix for this would be to have a centralized update system with google at the helm, but this would be a problem for OEM branding, exclusive features/services, and apps (UI & UX).

Thanks, Steven58, but I probably should have checked them out before I posted that. I've read them now. Yeah, I agree with Hadron that it does seem weird that Microsoft would somehow get involved with this. Then again, since the Windows phone has apparently bitten the dust, they might be looking for a way back into that part of the market. I wonder if their seemingly increasing use of Linux is a tacit admission about the state of Windows generally...
True, but as I pointed out to him (nicely), if he had made clear that the inflammatory title came from an article, and cited it, there wouldn't have been any confusion.
I did put it in quotation marks, but I guess that wasn't much help. I'll try to be more careful next time. By the way, there was a post on here quite a while back about the house that Windows built, versus the one by Apple, and the Android version. It was pretty funny. I sure would like to find that.

Well MS have announced that they will be releasing an Android phone - in about a year from now. It's their 2-screen folding model, teased the other week when they announced their updated Surface devices.
But of course that will just be one more heavily skinned device. It remains to be seen how MS will handle it, but it won't change anything for Android as a whole.
You're fine. Everything has to be in perspective. Android Hell-soup or whatever isn't the end of the world. There are other things in life to get bent out of shape over, you know? Carry on. No need to apologize or walk anything back. You're good.
Thanks very much, I appreciate that. As for the hell soup of Apple, theirs seems to be cooked by trying to keep up with Android's apparently bat out of hell's cauldron release schedule. Maybe they just forgot the eye of newt. Incidentally, what is Android 10? I assume that would make Oreo etc. null and void.
Android 10 is the latest version. They just gave up on the dessert/cookie/sweet names when they got to Q.
And at one level, yeah Oreo was 2 years ago. On the other, Oreo still works fine, if you are still getting security updates then no worries, if you aren't that's still not a reason to trash a perfectly good device (Oreo is solid and much more secure than Lollipop or KitKat, which many people are still running - including my tablet which is on 5.1 as that was its last update).

As @Hadron noted, continuing to use Oreo shouldn't be a problem.
My current phone is only four months old--Motorola sent me a new one when my still-under-warranty, Moto Z² Force had a problem. Motorola had previously announced that the Z² -would- get updated to Pie, then backtracked, only giving it to phones with one carrier (Verizon?). I have no intention of ditching a brand-new phone any time soon! Pie or no Pie, I'll keep this phone until I'm good and ready to replace it.
