Help save an innocent man

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
An innocent man, Rodney Reed, is due to be executed in Texas on the 20th.

Please sign the petition on Free Rodney Reed whether you're convinced he's innocent, or just have doubts about his case. Better to postpone an execution and then find out he was guilty, than to execute him and then find out he was innocent.

I've researched the case, and I understand the science involved, and how it does not incriminate him.

Time's running out. Please help if you're so inclined.

[Mods, I know this belongs in P&CA. I put it here for greater exposure, as many people--myself included--rarely or never go there.]

Thanks everyone, and I totally understand it being moved here, so no apologies needed. :)

I actually learned about this case on Dr Phil, a show I don't normally watch; its facts so angered me that I felt compelled to dig deeper, and I've read a ton on it so far, and every bit of it reinforces my belief that Reed is innocent.

Ironically, I was living in Texas at the time of this crime, but way up north. I don't recall hearing about it at all.

If you're into such things and you feel inclined to do so, please spread the petition link around on social media, etc. It was at about 2.5M signatures last night, of its new goal of 3M. A LOT of people feel strongly about this.

I’m unsure if you recall, but I used to practice law
Honestly, I had forgotten until your earlier post refreshed my memory.
and am still pretty well versed in criminal procedure. The stuff that used to pass for justice is appalling ... and from what little I’ve been able to read about this case...well, I’m appalled.
I appreciate that input. It's appalling to me but, as a layperson, I don't know what that's worth. Hearing it from an expert means a lot. :)
Next week I plan to send a letter to Governor Greg. I doubt he’ll ever see it, but I’ll feel better for having shared my thoughts.
Just a reminder that the website has everything one could need to easily contact the relevant players. I encourage anyone who wants to make more of an impact to go there and use its info to make contact.
Enjoy the weekend, Moody. Soon it will be Tuesday Afternoon again, you know? ;)
That just made me smile. Thanks, root, you have a great weekend, too.

Update: an indefinite stay of execution was issued today!

The millions of voices of people who've called, written, and signed petitions have been heard.

Stay tuned, as this is not the end of the story...

that's awesome though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i briefly saw a news notification about a texas man. did not read it fully and i did not put 2 and 2 together until just now.

Just came over to post this from email, which adds details to Moody’s update:

WE DID IT!!!

Within the hour after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles officially recommended that Governor Greg Abbott stop the execution of Rodney Reed for a 120 day reprieve…this happened:

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ordered a stay of execution for Rodney Reed. Reed's "Brady, false testimony, and actual innocence claims" will be considered by the trial court in his case before any further action is taken.

That means Rodney is still in jail, and there will still be a trial. But for now, Rodney Reed will live.

THANK YOU. This never would've happened without massive numbers of people like you making phone calls, organizing rallies and vigils, and raising our voices together.

We're so proud of what we've achieved together, and our Action PAC team hustled hard:
  • We launched the #FreeRodneyReed website and petition which garnered 3 MILLION signatures;
  • We set up the call tool that directed more than 100,000 total calls to decision-makers;
  • We successfully pressured 70 Texas legislators to write letters urging Gov. Abbott to intervene;
  • We helped volunteers organize more than 130 vigils and rallies around the country and recruited 4,000 people to join.
But all of this work and our online organizing tools took a ton of funding, and we need your support for our next steps.

Can you make your best gift right now to support Action PAC's campaign to #FreeRodneyReed and all of our ongoing work to combat racism and bigotry? We can't keep it up without you.
DONATE

Lastly: the nationwide #FreeRodneyReed demonstrations planned for Sunday, November 17th will proceed. We don't yet know what will happen with Rodney Reed's trial. We do know that this mobilization will not be stopped.

Sunday's rallies and vigils need to be as big as possible to spread the word about this victory and organize people for our next steps to free Rodney Reed.

So far there are more than 130 events in the works. If you haven't signed up for one near you yet, do it now.

We are so proud of you. Today's victory truly belongs to all of us.

Let's keep going.

This is excellent news with which to kick off the weekend!

I got the same e-mail! It was so uplifting reading it.

I *know* in my gut that the fiance did it. Just wait...just wait until that day when the DNA evidence is understood correctly by the moron prosecutors, and they announce they've arrested the real killer.
