I have a question about using Dailyroads dash cam with my motorola moto g phone.
Can I use this app with the phone in airplane mode? I'm trying to keep the phone cool as possible.

Yes you can. It doesn't require WiFi or cellular data to operate but you will want GPS on to be able to have GPS data overlayed onto video files.

I'm trying to keep the phone cool as possible.
My biggest problem heat wise for phones mounted on the dash is the sun. I use my phones for navigation, not dashcam, but I used to always get heat notifications on my Moto X4 when the sun was hot. I'd have to either take it out of the windshield and put it in the center console or crank AC through the defrost vents to cool the phone.

Now the weather is cool and not so hot. I have this one mounted with a holder to the back side of mirror which is pretty much out of the sun as it hangs under the lower part of rearview mirror. this is a phone that I replaced and just testing how they work as dash cam. So far seams to work ok just have to take a long drive and see how much heat builds up. It would be grate if you could run the phone without battery and just use the charging cable connected to the vehicle cig plug. Have not been able to do this.

Cool, I look forward to hearing how it works out. I like seeing things used in unintended ways.

Unfortunately, this won't work. The phone always runs off the battery, even when plugged in, the cord charges the battery while the phone is consuming the stored power in the battery.

The app i'm using, Dailyroads, controls the phone very well. Dont know if you are familiar with it, but it turns on the phone and starts when vehicle is started and turns off when vehicle is turned off.It also give a good view of the road and on both sides. It also has a heat sensing capability which turns off the phone if it over heats. You can set how hot it can get before turning off. Pretty good I must say.

Looks interesting. I may use some of my Play credit on the app. I have a dashcam now, but it doesn't do speed or GPS.

Thanks for replying. GPS would be LOCATION on, right?
You likely have an option in the phone Settings for Location something like "GPS only". That location setting will use only the GPS radio and not use WiFi or cellular data for determining location.
