Help Why is my RINGER VOLUME grayed out and now non-functioning??

Hi everyone. I attended a seminar and simply turned the volume all the way down (i.e. Menu, Sound & Display, then Ringer Volume).

But when I got out of the seminar, and went back to Ringer Volume, it's now grayed out as is Phone ringtone, Phone Vibrate, Notification Sound and all the others below until you get to Emergency Tone and below, where those are back to being bright white.

i.e. now when I touch the grayed out Ringer Volume, it does nothing and I'm stuck with vibrate only.

What's going on??

I just noticed that when I went into Sound & Display, then Sound profile, it was set to Vibrate. So I instead checked Normal...and all the grayed out sound items were back.

But...I didn't set it to Vibrate. I simply lowered the Ringer Volume during the seminar. How did that happen??

Did you use the actual physical volume button? If you keep clicking down past silent it will switch the phone to vibrate.

No problem :)

I didn't realise at first either, but I actually find it pretty handy now :)

FINALLY!!!!

Been reading posts for nearly an hour as I couldn't change the email notification sound on my S3 (from the annoying 'Postman' tone) due to the option being greyed out.

This thread solved the problem and proves the point - easy when you know how!

Big thanks

BIG THANKYOU. I hadn't actually turned the volume down (must have pressed control accidentally) I spent ages messing with settings before I came here.

In addition, some phones, such as the Oneplus phones have a physical silence slider on the side of the phone. It is easy to put the phone into silent mode accidently or to forget that you slid it (like at the movies). It will leave the ringer grayed out until you put it back to normal mode.
