App prevent usage while driving

Hello,
i'm getting nuts in searching and not finding any app which simply
blocks the screen while detecting a defined speed with GPS.

The app is needed in business where an employee drives a vehicle like a truck or a bus.

Sounds simple! Detect speed -> Lock screen.
Simple but not available, anywhere!!

Does anybody know of an app like this?
Only thing i found is LifeSaver, but this app is way too expensive.

Any hint appreciated!
bye
Heinz

I don't think you find an app like that. It's too specific that I don't think there would be a high demand for such an app. I would look to get an app developer to design an app for you as I have doubts that you will find such an app in the play store.

Hi, too secific? I think an app like this, could be used in almost every business vehicle worldwide.
Everybody must prevent tablet usage while driving. I don't think this security usecase is rare.

Problem I see with this. How would the app know if the person is actually driving, or if they're just a passenger in a vehicle? If they're a passenger, they would need an "I'M NOT DRIVING" button, which would override the lock.

Yes too SPECIFIC. What about people who need GPS to go to one place to the next? What about people who need to make phone calls on the go? I need my phone operational while I drive. I need my phone to record all the places I have been that day. I don't see a lot of businesses that needs their employees phones to not work while they drive.

Like i said I would look into contacting an app developer to specifically design an app that will do exactly what you want it to do.

I think the OP just doesn't want people playing Angry Birds or Facebook or TikTok while driving. I doubt he or she wants to stop them from actually being able to call the boss or dial 911 in an emergency.

Gosh people, how on earth did we ever survive without smartphones?!

I used to work for someone who handed employees a Samsung Galaxy S4 in 'work mode' that basically only allowed approved apps by the boss--basically a widgetless home screen with only phone (which only opened to approved conctacts), messages (again, could only text approved contacts), email (work gateway), and emergency mode. That was it. No games, TikTok for you!

High School used to employ an old Windows 3.11 app called 'Sabre Menu System' that blocked access to the entire desktop, overlaying its own version of Program Manager with 'approved apps' and basically only had Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. No Internet for you! (although us smarter students exploited a workaround that involved using Word, opening a new document, insert object, point to any *.exe and browse their T1-powered internet anyway)

You say "not available anywhere" but then say that this "Lifesaver" app is available. So it sounds like what you really mean is "not available cheaply enough for me".

Anyway it seems to me that there's a fundamental problem with the request: a sensible driver won't need it, and an idiot won't use it.

But worse, it seems you aren't even talking about phones but about tablets: why does a bus or truck driver need a tablet in the first place? Because if it's not needed for the job the solution is that it should not be in the vehicle at all, and banning them from the cab seems simpler and more reliable than trying some technological fix. You don't want the sort of idiot who'd mess with a tablet while driving working for you anyway, so it's no loss to sack anyone who is reported doing so.

Conversely if it is needed for the job, e.g. you've decided that for whatever reason you want the drivers to use tablets to log their jobs, then issue them with managed devices which only have the apps needed for the job and which they can't install other apps on. That way there will be no temptation to use them when driving in the first place.

There are apps such as Tasker, which can do this, the only problem is that you have to program the steps involved yourself

Hi thanks for this idea! This really helps. There's a plugin called "Movement Detection" in TASKER which exactly does it.
I was able to display a screen pop up, while driving. When stopping it goes away. Works!
Only problem: It's hardly pssoble to spread this with an MDM System.

Two things here:
Of course MDM is installed and they have only one App available. But if you like to fullfill all security and health requirements nowadays you must ensure that even company related tasks are not possible with the unit while driving. Crashing while viewing a transport order, is the same crash you will have to expect while playing Angry birds.

Of course is the need of a tab e.g. in a truck between all the driving, for transport orders, communication, information. Todays it's a standard in digitalization in transport.

Well you mention buses, and I've never once seen a bus driver with a tablet.

As for trucks, there is obviously no function they must use while driving because you are trying to make that impossible. Ergo just tell them they must stow the tablet or turn the thing off before setting off.

The only 'tablets' I've seen drivers use are the huge bricks that still run Windows Mobile (brands like Zebra) that are carried around by the FedEx and UPS drivers.

Oddly enough I came across a Zebra scanner at a thrift store, selling for $40. I passed since 1) I think reselling them is illegal, and 2)I doubt I could have hacked the skinned variant of Windows Mobile for anything useful.
