N6 Retirement Party

So tonight my phone went nuts, apps went haywire, settings where doing whatever and for nearly an hour I had no control over the phone, couldn't power off, couldn't get Google assistant to work, absolutely nothing would work. So finally after close to two hours, I finally get my device to work right (,kind of)
So as I am reading some emails, my phone goes nuts again. I get it power off. I decided to wipe the cache. I figured I have a bug. Since I am running a April security patch and don't get any more help from Google. I am doing whatever to keep my device running.
So I do several cache wipes
On the last one I reboot
My phone goes off, comes back on does the whole loading thing very slowly but Instead of the pin screen to start things I have this page with numbers, from top to bottom,. So I press the power button and Google assistant appears asked what can I help you with? Then nothing, screen goes black.
When it comes on, I am looking at a fresh start up screen, somehow, some way my phone had factory reset.
I know for 100% I didn't factory reset it. I just had a fresh battery installed last week. My phone was running great, it was like it was brand new, then I had a few frozen screens, some bootloop issues nothing to bad I know for certain I didn't select that option. It then gave me a hard time when I attempted to sit it up. I have everything back to normal. For now at least

Hmmm. That doesn't sound good, @joe71. :( Unless it's the new battery that wasn't installed correctly (ie. loose connection?) you might have a failing component that's causing bootlooping. Too amny bad boots can force a factory reset like entering the password incorrectly too many times. Hope it was just a glitch.

I think my Nexus 6 is going to become my puppy cam if I can find an app I like ... looking at one now but a little busy with puppy so haven't had time to really dig in. I'll report back if I get good results.

I've monkeyed around with a few webcam apps with older phones and never found one I liked. A dedicated camera will work so much better.

Oh? I suppose water is also wet right?
:)
Yea I know but I just bought 100+ bucks worth of puppy stuff - collar, harness, leash, tag, food, training crate, treats, toys ... and more to come ... vet trip tomorrow and next Saturday ... so yea.

I own a Nexus 6 ... sitting in it's little LEGO stand I built for it ... right now, as I type. And Webcams, dang son they ain't cheap. So I'll see if I can make this work and wait for a better option to fall in my lap on sale, clearance or craigslist.
:)

h so around 2 AM I go to bed i had barely dozed off when google assistant comes on and starts rambling about there is no known direction to that location, there is currently a 45 minute delay in traffic on some interstate ,
i got some sports scores and a few other things. I go to turn the phone off and see the screen is going haywire its flashing and shaking, for forty five minutes i am doing all i can to power the device off , I squeezing on the powering button (which was just replaced) absolutely nothing is working.
then i get this message unable to install any further apps. I open or tried to open the app drawer only the app drawer symbol is gone. my phone finally goes off. when it comes back on its scrolling something about Api: unable to install file. reinstall file, enter something, file not acceptable, compatible, file successfully installed.
phone turns off.
phone comes back on
more of the Api file stuff. it does the scrolling the file stuff as i described above after it installs the file or whatever it shuts down
this happened several times
then on the probably the 5th round right after it installed the new file, my phone goes to recovery mode and scrolls down to the factory reset mode clicks on, i get the factory data reset warning message about all data will be erased, etc, etc do you wish to continued my phone clicks yes and wipes the data. it then reboots
my phone came back on only it dosen't start up with the Google appearing on the screen. I have some code scrolling across the screen. needless to say this was on going issue till about 11;30 am this morning. My phone did a factory reset around 11:30-11;35 and shut down. I can't get it to turn back all i get is a white/bluish screen

My nexus 6 has been officially retired, truly an amazing device, I am going to miss it

So... the love affair that began on November 29th of 2014 has sadly come to an end. 3 years, 5 months and 25 days ago I bought my Nexus 6 at a local ATT store as I couldn't find it anywhere else. @lunatic59 helped me with learning the inner workings of side loading, flashing and the basics of rooting on this very board. (Thanks Luna) It was a soldier, a warrior, it never let me down, no not once. I prayed for a decent replacement and the Pixel 2XL came along and took my fancy. I do Love my Pixel, but nothing could ever replace the N6 or the Moto X (2013) before it. Yesterday, a good, good friend broke his phone and was in a bad spot, I couldn't say no so I said goodbye to my Nexus and sent it on to a new life and new home. I cried a little, I gotta be honest. So today starts a new existence for me, one without my Nexus.

To anyone reading, thanks for listening to me whine. I'll miss you old friend, Nexus. Fly on gossamer wings sweet prince. Bring joy to another's life.

Aww :'(

Well, it's been a long time since I've been around here, and I know I'm bringing back to life an old thread, but . . .

About a year ago my N6 while downloading something went haywire on mine as well. I used wug's to restore to factory, checked the 'bootloop' box and restored it that way. Re-rooted and re-installed pure nexus 5.1.1 because I don't like what was lost in marshmallow and up. But it was still a bit wonky so last week I bought a 'new in box' N6 from eBay and getting it set up now. I will not own another LG phone otherwise, I was tempted to go Pixel II XL. I'm keeping my N6 for as long as it will work.

Running Oreo AOSiP 8.1 on my N6. And Pie is coming to N6. So unless a company I trust comes with as large screen under $250 I'm sticking with my new to me mint used N6.

I miss my Nexus 6. Gave out on me back in January, died completely got stuck in the ultimate device control factory reset kept errassing everything then installing God knows what.
Been using an LG g6, absolutely hate it
Saw some where the Nexus 6 received an update back in April or May. Not bad for a device discontinued in December 2015 and device support officially ended in October of 2016

So, as an update, my new to me N6 that I bought from eBay is working just fine and it seems as though my 'old' one by wiping system has now forgone some of the previous issues it had last July going forward. I may try some Oreo on it. The 'new' one does exhibit better battery life, as a new phone should.

I like the 6" screen. The Pixel II XL though is an LG. A brand I will never have on me again. There are now some Moto 6" - ers, but development isn't ever going to be as good for them as it is/was for the N6.

Long may it last. I'll say this much. It certainly has the hardware to last much much much longer than the Motorola A855 that pretty much brought us all here in the first place.

I still love mine _ for how I use it. Since May 2017, using it with a tablet data plan from T-Mobile. Web surfing, all the Hulu,Netflix, YouTube, ect it can eat with Bingeon. I wish more phones placed front facing speakers. I still have to cup my hand around my LG G6, only thing I don't like about it

LineageOs is still building roms for the nexus 6. I'm using LineageOS 18.1 which is android 11. Runs great. F#€k Google. They always abandon their stuff after a year just like you would kick out a toothless homeless street prostitute from your car after getting a quick gummer.

Well there's a mental picture I didn't need. ;)

I might just have to brush the dust of the old N6 and see how she handles Android 11. I'm currently rockin' a Pixel 4xl and I would say it's convinced me that my relationship with non-Google devices is over.

In fact, I'm using my Nexus 6 right now and this reply was posted by Motorola Nexus 6 which is the Google Nexus 6 which is the phone in my hand presently and is the model Nexus 6. It's still AAALLIIIIIVEE!!

CRDroid had an Android 9 rom, I believe. I got tired of it pretty quickly on account of the ridiculous amount of options and settings in the main menu. Should this font be 23.3 dpi high and 1.3 dpi wide and colored mocha?

The most terrible thing that's ever happened in the entire history of humankind just happened!

I dropped (accidentally, not on purpose!) my Nexus about 25 ft above the ground and killed it!
I'm thrashing about in agony! Someone please torture me for a week and then put me out of my misery with a bullet between the eyes!

(PS: if anyone has a nice Nexus 6 that they can donate towards my blight, contact me for shipping address)
