Messenger notification icon no longer appearing on home screen

Up until the recent software update, whenever I got a new message in Messenger the icon of the person sending it would pop up on my home screen of the phone.
This is no longer happening, but I have all the notification settings in Messenger turned on.
Can anyone please help?

try wiping cache and data for messenger, uninstalling the app, and then re-installing it. if that does not work, then most likely the app has not been updated to work with the update on your phone. you can contact the developer and let them know or just wait until the app gets updated.

long push the app in the app drawer, drag to home page.

not sure how that will help the op as that just adds the app to the home screen. it does not help the op get a popup message of a new text. plus this thread was started last year.....no reply from the op, so hopefully the issue got fixed.

messenger or messages....my comment was to replace what i thought was fb messenger app.

fwiw: i use verizon message+ , from within the app select pop-up + will verbalize the message! not sure if same capabilities are available with other messaging apps.

I ran into this problem after replacing phone with newer model and using software to move all my apps and data. Discovered the missing setting was to grant the Messenger app permission to Draw Over Other Apps.
