Google Assistant not working with Home Button anymore

Google Pixel 8. Latest OS.

I'm noticing after a recent update, I can no longer hold the Home Button to activate Google Assistant. I have to say "OK Google" for it to active. How do I restore this feature? I don't want to add Google Assistant to the power button either.

looks like you can't. this article does not list the home button as a way to launch google assistant:

This article is from 2023. I was using the home button up until a few weeks ago. What changed?

Maybe my memory is off a few months... But, I had been using it up until the last Security/OS update, which was within the last month or 2.

Looks like they removed this feature completely. What a bummer.

Ohh this message. Yes, I did. I kind of skimmed it when it popped up. I didn't exactly read it thoroughly. What a bummer. This was so useful the way it was set up originally.
