Android 14: No email notifications during sleep / lockscreen

I have a new Motorola Moto g Play (2024). It upgraded itself to Android 14.

I've been using it for 2 weeks now. One thing I've just recently noticed, when the screen goes dark, the phone will not alert me to emails, at least not in a timely manner. I've got my new phone (Android 14) right next to my old phone (Android 9), and my older phone makes the notification sound almost immediately. New phone maybe several minutes later, or not at all.
It seems to notify me of texts quickly, but it seems to snooze other notifications until I unlock the screen, then I get a flood of email notifications.

I have turned off Adaptive battery (which can cause a delay in notifications), I've turned off Notification Snoozing (under Notifications).

I know Android 14 has a "doze mode", but I don't know how long the phone has to sit idle before that initiates. I seem to be having trouble with timely notifications right after the screen goes dark.

I've read on Reddit that Android 14 seemed to be causing some people to get delayed notifications, so not sure if it's an Android 14 think or not.

So I'm thinking it's the "doze mode" feature of Android 14. When I plug in my charging cable, the notifications work quickly, even if the phone has been sitting idle for 10 minutes or more. Apparently the doze mode does not engage while phone is charging (from what I've read online, and from my own observation)

My previous phone, running Android 9, does have some delay when it's been sitting idle, so I guess there is also a doze mode with Android 9, but it's not nearly as bad as Android 14.

It just frustrates me, that I need to turn on my old tablet, running Android 7.0 right next to my brand new Moto g Play running Android 14, because that way, I'll get real time notifications on the tablet..... like if someone is coming to my front door (security camera notification). Having important notifications completely shut down because of doze mode is crazy. No updates? no work arounds?

Stupid technology! I hate it lol

Have you checked on the approach to wake, or set notifications on?

no issues with my z fold 6. you have a very budget friendly phone. my phone is top of the line and i have never had any issues with email notifications. it is weird that my phone does not have the doze mode option in developer mode. i always say that you get what you pay for when it comes to tech.

out of curiosity, what email client are you using?

I use yahoo.com but also Gmail

I also have phone in developer mode. It's definitely the doze mode issue. I just didn't think the phone would go into doze mode so quickly. Almost as soon as the display goes dark. I assumed (why would I do that ) doze mode might initiate after........lets say......10 minutes or so of non activity. From what I'm reading, all Android phones starting with Android 6 have a doze mode.

I have all notifications (that I want on) set to on. I have placed yahoo email app and Gmail for Unrestricted battery usage.
But doesn't matter because phone goes into doze mode and I don't get the notifications, at least not for sometimes 10 minutes, 20 minutes after an email arrives. In many cases I wouldn't care, but if there is movement in front of my security camera, I want to be alerted asap, not 25 minutes after lol.
This is a widely experienced thing I'm reading online with doze mode. charging the phone turns doze mode off, and I get all my notifications in a timely manner while plugged in. Also, there are some work-arounds with forcing doze mode off, but it if you restart your phone, it re initiates I guess.
