16 gigs of storage is not much these days. almost half of that is your operating system. you may want to consider setting up your sd card as internal to add more space. just keep in mind that you will not be able to remove and use your sd card as normal. you can't remove it to be used on your computer or in other devices. it will get encrypted and can only be used by your specific phone.

plus your phone is over 6 years old. you other option is to get a new device that has more storage.

Thanks people. Just need it to keep on for a bit. I keep it on my desk and only use it for two banking aps. So demand is not great!
I managed to just uninstall the apps I do not use, so got it down to 92 percent or so. Cannot find how to empty the bin!
So, help on clearing space and emptying the bin would be gratefully received. Tried following instructinos online but refer to 'library' in photos which is not present on my phone.

In older versions of Google Photos I believe you would tap on the Menu on the top left then tap Trash.

You can also clear the cache of all apps to free up space:
Open the Settings app.
Go to the Apps & notifications or Applications menu.
Scroll through the list of installed apps and select the app you want to clear the cache for.
Tap on the app to open its settings page.
Look for the Storage or Storage & cache option and tap it.
On the storage screen, you will see a Clear Cache button. Tap on it.

Thanks. I have managed to delete all the apps I do not use any more and got down to 93% or so. But I have a great big folder of songs. I have put them in the bin. Now all I need to do is empty the bin. How can this be difficult?! Am I being super stupid?
