Serious Power Help Needed: Does Bluetooth or WiFi Internet use more battery power?

I would say, from my own experience, that wifi is faster than BT. I have sometimes used an app named Droid Over Wifi that lets me set up the phone as a file server, and use a web browser to login from a PC (or even another phone) to the phone using a onetime code the app generates each time you use it. Then you can use a file directory interface to look for files and/or pics to select on the phone and then download to the PC.

Thanks!

If bluetooth uses less power, can you recommend a "bluetooth data sharing" App to send data from the Huawei running Android 4.1 to Win10 or another Android device?

Be great if I didn't need to install an extra App because the power on the batteries I've bought are limited... 😢 😢 😢 😢

you need to consider and weigh out the power consumption issue with regard to speed; how much less power consumption do you think BT uses versus wifi?
if BT speed of transfer is an order of magnitude (or larger) slower than wifi, then total power consumption will be excessive because you're spending 10x the number of seconds and it may drain the battery more than using faster wifi that consumes slightly more energy.

all that said, I once long ago used an app (yes you'd have to download and install that too) called Bluetooth File Transfer, it's an older file manager app that supports BT connections between phones and PCs.

I'm sure your quickest and easiest way by far, would be to insert a micro-SD/TF card in the phone and transfer/copy all the photos using the phone's own file manager app. You can put the phone in flight mode, so it will use less power.

Why can't you charge the phone, don't you have a USB charger, or don't you have mains power there?

i agree, a microsd card is the way to go, if you are concerned with battery consumption. also a connection from phone to pc via a cable would also use less power.

edit: after reading your other thread, if the sd card that is already installed on the phone is formatted as internal, then like i said in that thread, the sd card is encrypted. i think then that your best option is to just connect the phone to the pc and copy your internal to the pc.

Thanks everybody for replying!

I had a look at that Bluetooth File Transfer App but it's not compatible with my very old Android 4.1.1 OS... :(

I have inserted a microSD card already and I think this may be the most energy efficient way to do the backup.

I dropped the phone on concrete and ever since it just refuses to charge. I can't even connect it to my PC😢😢😢

Is Google Drive a reliable option as well if I go the wifi method?

Man, I WISH I could connect the phone to my PC, but when I connect it to the USB port on the PC nothing happens... I've bought a "phone repair kit" and I've been cleaning out the internals of the phone but nothing seems to work.. 😢😢😢
Your phone is 11 years old! Why didn't you have a backup plan? You had 11 years to make one. Hopefully you can salvage your items and not lose them forever.

I had it backed up man, but it all disappeared from my cloud backup. I backed up the Huawei phone, HOWEVER, the only way to access those backups is to connect the Huawei phone to a PC and use Huawei's backup App to open the backups... I never tried to access the Huawei backup App on my PC because I just assumed it was working... 😢😢😢

Again I'm f...... Amazed that someone has an 11 year old phone that still is their daily driver. Speechless.
Thanks!

Trust me it wasn't fun at all... I just had so many real life stressors hit me at once that I had to keep buying a new phone on the "back burner" if you know what I mean... 😢 😢 😢

I've purchased at least 5 batteries now.

Just so it's clear for me:

Turn on Huawei with energy that's left on these batteries I've bought:
1. copy to microSD card on Huawei
2. use bluetooth to transfer files to Win10 PC
3. use WiFi to transfer directly to Win10 PC
4. use WiFi and send files to GoogleDrive App
5. use WiFi and use in-built Huawei backup App?

I was just surprised to read such a negative comment when I'm in the middle of such a scary position as my personal data is at risk... 😢😢😢
@treb1797 is just a troublemaker. just ignore him. i think sometimes that he is the real Quagmire in real life....LMAO!!!!!!

Think you misunderstood my comment. All good, sorry for your issues. If you need immediate help you might need to ask in a more active forum site.
Thanks!

I know this isn't the biggest forum on the Internet but I believe it has the most Android experts. 😢 😢

As of right now, the best way for me to backup my data is to copy it to a microSD card that's inside the Huawei G510?

Okay from all of my research I've created a list of the most efficient way to backup my old Huawei:

Could someone please confirm this for me:
Is this an accurate list for the best methods of backing up my Huawei in terms of energy efficiency:

1. copy to microSD card on Huawei
2. use bluetooth to transfer files to Win10 PC
3. use WiFi to transfer directly to Win10 PC
4. use WiFi and send files to GoogleDrive App
5. use WiFi and use in-built Huawei backup App?

Woah, no wonder your battery is chewed up.

Do not copy everything at once.
Try little steps in each problem.

Why not just take the SD card out and hook that up to the PC? You just need a micro SD card adapter if your pc does not have a micro SD card slot. No need for Bluetooth or wifi.

Or attach a USB cable between the two. Really, I think the Wi-Fi is going to be (marginally) better on battery life, simply because you'll likely get better bandwidth and fast transfer rate than Bluetooth. If you're that worried about battery life, however, connecting the phone to the PC with a cable will simultaneously transfer the data AND charge the phone.
