4th Of July Holiday 2025

It doesn't seem possible that the big Independence Day celebration is upon us once again. How time flies when one is having fun. So far we haven't made any plans for the 4th. My son and his family are spending the holiday at the lake. My daughter in California will use the time to move into the new home they just had built. My daughter that lives local is our only hope of doing something family oriented. The wife and I will be available for whatever. I'm sure I'll be smoking out something so we will have some good eats. It's likely that I will have some old friends in town to share a bit of time with.

Do you have anything planned for the holiday? I hope that whatever you do, you have a great time. If you travel, be safe.

It's not the 4th without burgers and dogs. When I was growing up, the entire neighborhood had a huge cookout. Burgers and dogs and followed by ice cold watermelons and home made ice cream. It's amazing how times have changed. Between my yard and the yard North stretched two badminton nets end to end. It was nearly a nightly activity when all the adults and most of the kids would square off for a few sets. Afterwards the men would have a beer or two, the ladies would gossip, and us kids would fire up the record player and dance on the back porch. I feel damn fortunate to have grown up in such a small community in such an innocent time of man.
The above is a patriot waving his flag out of love of my county and the blessings of life.

man....red meat is expensive these days. was going to get some steaks for the 4th, but they were way too expensive. i found some precut beef ribs for $25, gonna make those instead. next i need to pick up some beer and another bottle of Smokehead scotch and the day is set for the 4th. just gonna have a few friends over......we'll probably watch some fireworks from the roof of my house. i live on hill and from the roof, you can see quite a few firework shows.

Our church has for years volunteered to help our city with their Independence Day festivities, so we plan to help for a couple of hours. Afterward, we're not quite sure, we may go to my sister's for a bit or just grill some burgers. We plan to stay in for the night as our dog is not a fan of fireworks.
On the 2nd we are going to a county fair which will be fun.

↑↑ You just dislodged a childhood memory that I'll share. When I was a wee lad we had a loving Cocker Spaniel as the third child in the house. She was scared out of her mind by the fireworks and actually ran away on the night of the 4th. My sister and I cried and cried we missed her so.
My dad drove the addition nightly for over a week looking for her with no luck. The next 4th of July she came home. She had been well taken care of by some other loving family but ran away once again from being so frightened by the fireworks. It always amazed me that she remembered where she lived a year later.

I think I tell this story every year... years ago my city had a volunteer fire department and they were in charge of setting off the fireworks the city bought. They set off big boy fireworks at the football stadium and we filled the stands and set up lawn chairs around the stadium and on the baseball diamond. It was a big event that was free. The LAST year the local boys were in charge of the fireworks, about a minute or two into the show... everything they had went off. The show lasted about three minutes and was extremely entertaining. Watching the firemen diving for cover was almost as entertaining as all the fireworks going off at once. It was the best 4th show I've seen in my life!
