Thanks I did wrote down the wrong date againThe United States Constitution was written to serve as the Supreme Law of our Land on September 17th, 1787. It is the oldest functioning, written constitution in the world and has served as the basis of the American government for 238 years.
While many people believe that our rights come from the Constitution, they do not: the Declaration of Independence is clear that our rights are inherent at birth, endowed to us by God and Natural Law. The Constitution is a written guarantee that our rights can not be violated without due process. It is not a restraint on the People: it is a restraint on the federal government.
The States created the federal government with the Constitution and gave to it 18 specific powers. Sadly, we have allowed the federal government to seize a great deal of power from the States and the People over the last century... in violation of the 9th and 10th Amendments. We have a lot of altering and abolishing to do at the federal level.
