1 Day with the Nexus 4 16GB

I have to say, for my first Android phone, I am over the moon pleased with it.

i've got my gmail and iCloud mail all hooked up and the phone is just a pleasure to use.

The 'pixels on the screen' effect is mesmerizing and makes my iPhone 4S immediately look outdated.

the phone didn't come with 4.2, it downloaded once I was all connected up. all is smooth and responsive - the very issue that stopped me moving to android til now.

btw, I can't live without a slip case with those little draw pull things, so I ordered one from ebay for a samsung galaxy s3 "BLACK LEATHER PULL TAB CASE COVER POUCH FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 III i9300". it needed packing with paper to stretch it out, but it fits and will suffice until i find a really nice one.

ask away if you want me to check anything

Michael

Did you buy outright? or on contract?

Any chance of some hi-res images? I'm intrigued about the new curved screen and how it will be affected by the bumper case.

The big thing I'm interested in, as a kernel/rom developer, is how to hard reset a phone with a non-removable battery. It looks like holding the power button for 10 seconds will hard reboot the phone even when the UI and kernel are crashed. Does this work properly?

I agree with the OP, the display looks/feels really close to the surface.

Everything is snappy as I said before and 4.2 update came within minutes of set up.

I too am using a Pull Tab Case (bought for my GNex so fits perfectly) so the slippery bugger is protected when not used but naked when in use.

In my experience, yes. This is clearly evident to work on most devices I have used with non removeable-batteries.

I would hope so, but I wanted to make sure. I read a discussion about the n7 where it was claimed that this did not work as advertised.

I did get the 16GB, outright, from O2 (UK).

the phone feels solid, but not as solid as the iphone 4S - i really think about where the phone is - if i cracked it within the first week i'd be soo mad!

the curved edges are really useful! when swiping and cleaning the screen, the lack of bevel really works!

i initially charged to about 95%, used it constantly for about 6 hours, standby over night and 4 hours use today til it got to 15%.

not sure about UK data speeds, but I was downloading via cellular at 500KB+ p/s.

I can take some high res shots tonight, but won't you all have yours tomorrow?

I looked earlier to see a whole bunch of running apps - a lot, but no games - and I still had 1.3mb free ram :)

Not sure if this is me, but after the 4.2 download, I was getting RPC:AEC:0 messages from the play store. I had to unsign my account and clear data for some of the google services before i was back in business.
