11,000 + contacts

MyTouch 3G Slide has over 11,000 contacts. Estimate that I really have < 600 but somehow after software update, contacts exploded, Phone is now ultra slow and I need a process of purging duplicates etc.

Would like to use PC/Excel edit function or some other tool and then
transfer back to phone.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go contacts does a very good job merging contacts. But wow, you have too many friends.

you could always import your contacts to your pc then reboot your mobile

Sometimes you can end up with duplicates of all of your contacts, particularly if you do use a backup/restore tool to restore them after an update or factory reset - they sometimes get treated as new contacts and synced to google server as such.

To fix this:

Log into your google account via web browser.

Go to Account Settings -> Dashboard -> View data stored with this account -> Contacts -> Manage Contacts.

Then use the Find Duplicates tool on this page, this should allow you to merge any repeated contacts.

Then sync your contacts on your phone.


Alternatively you may have duplicates of contacts stored in multiple places (e.g. google account, phone storage, sim card) and have all of these sources enabled. You should be able to filter which sources are displayed somwhere.
