16GB is that enough for Moto X?

I am going with a carrier that only sells the Moto X in 16GB which makes me nervous. How is everyone doing with the extra Google storage? Is it a seamless transition to have the 2 years 50 GB storage free on Google Drive?

16GB is just not enough for me.

Thanks
KT

16GB of storage in the phone is quite a bit, unless you keep more than a few feature-length movies on the phone at once. 50GB on Google Drive? If that's not enough, and you don't want to pay for storage, there are about a dozen free cloud storage companies at the moment, so you should be able to put together about 120GB of free cloud storage. (Or you could buy a 2TB drive, stick it into a USB box and have 2TB of storage at home for about $120.)

So when I was on the iphone, I bought 20gb of storage only to find out that it didn't work for music which is what I really needed it for. This was when cloud technology was first coming out so I had all my music on my phone and couldn't download any apps. This event actually put me on the road to switching to droid. Google wouldn't do me like that right? I guess I'm asking if there any restrictions to getting cloud storage on droids? I can use it for music, movies, apps etc? Thanks so much!

Yeah, my carrier has only 16GB too (which didn't cut it for me either), so I ordered a Meenova microsd card reader, and now I can plug that into the phone when I want ALL my music and movies and pictures on my 64GB microsd card. I don't like relying on cloud storage. I only use that for backup. I want my stuff wherever I am! And the Meenova is really tiny....I just have to try not to lose it.

That's a pretty cool idea. Didn't really know that was out there. Its not a perfect solution. But it seems like if you have no other option but a 16Gb phone...this would be your best solution. I would say the OP should try this out. Since he said he can't get anything but a 16GB phone.

Whenever my friends ask me what size phone do they need, I always ask them if they use music/movies on their phone. If the answer is yes...then you should never buy a 16GB phone. The 16GB is perfect for those who don't keep music and movies on it. I have an unlimited plan, so I don't mind streaming the music. But I had a friend who was going to get a Moto X or the S4...and went with the s4 because of the expandable storage. It really comes down to the needs of the user.

Thank you very much for the tip guys. I will definitely buy the Meenova if I decide to keep the Moto X.

Google Music (the default music player on the Moto X connects to it) allows you to sync as many as 20,000 songs to it from your computer to stream online and those do NOT count against your Google Drive space.

Otherwise, I have all my photos auto-backup to Google+ (they stay private until you share them) and then delete the ones I don't really need on my phone from the phone.

I like the look of the Meenova. I have a few apps that create back up files that don't go to the cloud. This would be a way to put those backups in a location different from the app data (my current phone has a micro sd slot.)

Even though I use google music, streaming never seemed reliable while running fitness tracking apps. So when I run, I prefer locally stored music. Also, I sometimes listen to music at work when I have to work after business hours. Our building has lots of dead spots for cellular and I'm currently sitting in one of them... so streaming at my desk is an exercise in frustration. I've been holding out for 32gb Verizon, hoping to get the great price tomorrow as a benefit for waiting!

FWIW Google has gotten much better at streaming music.

I am probably going to end up deleting most of the music off my device (I use Google Music All Access too)

I usually purchase 32 gigs by force of habit, but as I've long moved the majority of my content to paid and free cloud services, I've used local storage a lot less.

Looking at my device, I have about 18GB of space left (after the OS which knocks the 32 down to 26ish), and I could probably free up more if I got rid of some unnecessary stuff, so a 16GB device would serve me fine, but it would be cutting it close, given 2-3 gigs of free space. In some reading and tests, it appears the Moto X handles itself really well when near capacity, so even if this were the case, it would still buzz along quickly.

Also, since I've stopped doing things like flashing ROMs and such, I've found less need for storing various backups. Biggest hog on storage right now, would be the 4GB of apps, with nothing else coming close. YMMV.
