I think one has amuch better chance for a good update if thephone is reset first to factory specs. Unfortunately many updates arrive stealthily sometimes at night. I prefer to freeze my update app and accept only the updates when I'm ready for them.

Maybe not, but I'd do both anyway. Apps and stuff cause clutter. If your doing it after anyway, why not before also? I wonder why some have issues after upgrades and some don't. Even a fully loaded phone can have a stellar update. I'd just prefer to give it the best possible chance of installing properly. I wonder who will reset prior to the ICS install and who will have issues? .181 is pretty small incrementally , but it never hurts to clear out the crap once in a while anyway. Just my .02It shouldn't really matter if you reset before the update or after.
Well I don't develop software so maybe that's why I think it's not a bad idea. Just a user who wants to have the best possible install. Just my own opinion as to thinking it's a good idea. I've had good installs over the years by doing it this way and clearing out the clutter of countless installs and apps is never a bad thing to do. To each their own as to methods. My last two droid devices that updated did so during the night and I had no real issues with it. However, I have since disabled the upgrader (froze) so I can have more control as to timing. This works for me.You should NEVER have to perform a full reset to have a good update on stock. Anyone who thinks that is a reasonable user experience shouldn't develop software
