1980s era Emulators - how fast a phone do I need?

I'm quite enticed by the new budget smartphones released in the last few days - the T Mobile Vivacity and Orange San Francisco II. Both have identical specs, including an 800MHz processor and 512MB RAM. As a sub

I'd think they'd do alright enough for that.

GBC, Sega, NES, SNES should be fine, but most GBA, N64 and PSX will probably not work too well. TigerMAME might work pretty good with older games, but games like Bombjack, Galaga, Junglehunt and some other older games actually need a pretty fast chipset, since play choppy otherwise. Something to do with how the games for those platforms were designed.
